What is with all the linen????

I went on a mad shopping trip yesterday to all my favorite stores (Gap, Banana, Ann Taylor, JCrew) looking for stuff to wear to work in this weather.

All i found was LINEN!! Everything was LINEN!!

Am I the only person who a)does not wear see thru clothing b) does not like looking like one giant wrinkle by 10am c)works in a place where most linen clothing would be so inappropriate?

I just purchased the linen Khaki skirt from the loft and I am wearing it today, not too crushed I must say, i think its the grade of the linen.

Re: What is with all the linen????

Not a fan of linen, don't own anything made with it and don't think I would. Seems too hard to care for and not very flattering on me.

I love the way linen looks on in the store, but on my butt -YUCK. Plus it is a wrinkling mess in 10 minutes.

Re: What is with all the linen????

Not into linen, hate the wrinkles.

I can wear almost anything to work (except shorts) and I couldn't bring myself to wer linen b/c of the wrinkles.

Also - what is with the tunics? I am sick of the faux-70's-embroidery-3/4 sleeve-Bali-like tunics.

And guess what - they're usually made of Linen!

Re: What is with all the linen????

I have on linen right now

I don't work in a very professional dress atmosphere though. (IT)

I agree with Shamma too its the quality of the linen. I have some dresses if the wind blows too hard I am wrinkled.

If I worked in a professional dress establishment I would not wear linen to work.

Re: What is with all the linen????

I agree. I hate linen too. Last year I bought a few linen skirts and they spend more time in the cleaners than on. It gets so wrinkled. As a matter of fact, I have one of the skirts on today. It looks like I slept in it.

It is cool and comfortable though. I wish they would show more than just linen for the summer.

I have a Loft gift certificate and I haven't been able to spend it - because everything in there is linen or looks terrible on me. I usually don't have this problem in loft....urg!!

Re: What is with all the linen????

I dont understand who wears see thru shirts. I own a few of them that I wear with a tank top as bar/going out wear. But I would never wear them in the daytime!

Banana Republic has a sweater set that is close to $200 and its croqueted with huge holes in it! Helloo???? What the hell does anyone do with it?

Re: What is with all the linen????

By the way - I think the key to linen is embracing the wrinkles as opposed to ironing it. Linen will never stay smooth so instead of ironing, you hsould shcrunch it up a few times before putting it on.

I dont like wrinkles so linen will not be making an apperance in my wardrobe.

Re: What is with all the linen????

Talking about those tanks, did anyone get the one called body shapers from Lerner NY with the shelf bra?? they are the best and they come in all the colors. I wear them under jeans, under see thru linen, everything, they are so easy to pack and easy to wear and does not wrinkle.

Re: What is with all the linen????

I like linen sometimes, I have 2 pairs of linen summer pants which I do wear to work (business casual attire)..

And Stef, at work there are almost always someone wearing either one of those crochet sweaters or see though summer shirts, with tank tops underneath. I may do that as well, since I just bought 3 see through summer cotton shirts, that could also work as dress shirts with tank tops.

I only wish the summer would come already.

BTW, I think loft had these nice black baby polka dot silk dresses on sale a few weeks ago, the one by me no longer has them, but its a light spagetti strap with a cover up tie back top. So cute.
