Is 800mcg folic acid too much

I am taking a mutli vitamin with 400mcg and a folic acid supplement with 400 mcg. The total of 800mcg daily, is that too much? Does anyone know if there are any side effects from having too much?

I think, I could be wrong, but I think prenatals have 800 in them, which my Dr. gave me when I told him I was TTC.

I *think* 800mcg might be too much for TTC

I am presently taking 400mcg, which was recommended by my gyno when I asked how much I should take in preparation of TTC. She then said that once you get preggo, its usually increased to 600-800mcg

ETA: oops I looked it up .. I'm wrong! 800mcg isn't too much .. 400mcg is a the 'minimum' dosage recommended when TTC, but 800mcg isn't too much at all

It's not too much!

I take a prenatal still that has 400 mcg in it, and it's a prescribed prenatal vitamin, and I'm also taking a B-complex that has 400 mcg in it to try to help lengthen my LP. From what I've been told, it's ok.

I go on a chat board on Fertility Friend.com and the women over there are so knowledgable about this stuff. I was worried about that too before I started taking a B-complex vitamin. Most of the women on there take 800 mcg.

When you're TTC and PG the minimum amount of folic acid is at least 400 mcg.

i went to the doctors yesterday to make sure im taking the right amount of medicine. They perscribed prenatal vitamins and bacause i am unable to take iron i had to seperate my vitimins the recommended amount of folic acid is 1mg. i was originally taking 400mcg which is a 1/4 of what i should have taken. If i wanted I would have to triple my intake to have the amount recommended. hope that helps.

No it should be fine.....normally your doctor would recommend that dosage AFTER you have become PG.

like i said i can not take prenatal vitamins becuase i have to control my iron intake so i have to seperate this out. I am told to take a multi vitamin w/o iron thank got they make it and 1mg of folic acid. It was a prescription over the counter 10 dollars for 30 pills.
