Billy Idol once professed the pleasure of having a “white wedding”. But, more and more couples are choosing to go “green”, and that means looking into looking great in eco-chic weddingwear.

· k a dress that’s eco-chic.ides looking for something that’s flattering to your figure and will impact your appearance, you’ll want to consider the impact your impact will have on the environment. Choose materials that are natural rather than synthetic fabrics that may be made in unhealthy, unsafe working environments. Studies show that nearly 20,000 people in developing countries lose their lives annually due to harmful chemicals sprayed on non-organic cotton and other fabrics. In fact, it’s reported that U.S. farm workers experience at least 300,000 pesticide-related illnesses yearly. So, just say “NO” to sweatshops” and to synthetics.

· nk outside the colour guidelines:, white has been and remains traditional, but a dress in a hue that best suites you can be even better can make you even more memorable. Remember, most white dresses achieve their luster from a toxic chemical process, so if your goal is going “green” you may want to opt of an off-white or not-so-white wedding gown, that’s make from a natural fabric like soy, hemp silk, organic silk, cotton, organic wool. Soy and/or bamboo, just to name a few.

· p fair trade:your homework and look for companies that implement fair trade practices which ensure fair wages for workers, and ensure they have adequate employee benefits.

· hometown haute: ider showing loyalty to your community by supporting local merchants including dress designers which also means lower costs because of no need for shipping. Plus, the money you spend will go back into YOUR community. You can even look into schools that offer fashion programs and get a future couture designer to design your gown.

· a “charitable” bride:Consider collaborating with organizations such as Citta and women in Nepal, who use the funds to get health care and education programs for their community.

· Talk the tux talk: Find out about how tuxes are cleaned and stored making sure they are taken care of properly and in an environmentally friendly fashion. Or, simply have each man wear a tux or suit (environmentally eco-chic, of course) that he already has.
