POST YOUR CREATIVE GIFTS HERE FOR SHOWERS...

Original post by shamma

Please post what you need to make it and what the steps are to making it. Thanks

The things that I have seen are the diaper cake, the daddy diaper duty apron, the candle basket, the wine rack gift, there is a gift that Niecey's IL made for her shower with things for the kitchen, I think those would be nice to have all in one spot.

What do you all think

People are always looking for creative gift ideas for their friends.

The last shower I went to I bought the blender off the registry and bought a huge galvanized metal tub. I filled it with all sorts of drink mixes, fancy glasses, rum ,fancy umbrellas.... etc. It was a big hit b/c they really like to entertain in their yard and the shower was end of May.

Also, a corningware cake. I don't make it as an acutal gift, kind of as an extra. You use the French White corningware in graduated sizes so that when you turn them upside down they sit on top of each other like a cake. Hot glue them together and then decorate however you want. (Hot glue does come off with a little work!) You can decorate with all white or with the BP colors. I usually do all little white rosettes along each base and then drape it with pearls or something like that. I bought a cute little cake topper at Michael's and it came out great. I usually wrap in cellophane and use lots of ribbon! I made it 3 times and it was always a hit. My cousin sat it in the middle of her dining room table the morning of the wedding. My FSIL still has the one I made her all wrapped up in her china closet! Actually when I made it for FSIL and put it on the table in the middle of all the presents, my FMIL thought it was a decoration provided by the place!

I'm in the process of making this flannel quilt for my cousin's baby shower. So far it's pretty easy. I'll take a pic when it's finished and post it.

I'm doing it all with the sewing machine, so it goes fast and is straight forward if anyone is looking for a 'starter project'.

Shamma- My MIL made me the towel cake and a gift for all seasons - that may be the one you mentioned above. It was a basket of mostly dish towels and place mats for every holiday imaginable. It also had a few decorative goodies like candles and similar. I had made that gift for my SIL's shower (which was three months before mine and I had no clue my MIL was making me one). For my SIL's - I did more decorative items like bowls and window decorations and stuff like that. I also found a red and green storage tub to hold and store it all. It was really cute. I just keep forgetting on all the holidays to take out the appropriate stuff.

My SIL also gave me the candle basket...

I have given the honeymoon basket travel bag before. That's fun.

Oh and that poem that has all the cleaning products in it (don't have it at work - let me know if you need it) - I have done that too.

I also like the gift of lingerie where you attach a clothes line to a hat box and pin on all different types of lingerie. I have also seen that for baby showers with baby clothes and accessories.

Also at my shower - the person who bought me a cappuccino maker - made me a cute basket - with the cups, cookies, coffee, sambuca, etc. Real cute.

I have also seen an Italian basket - with pasta, stuff to make homemade sauce, those decorative fancy oil things, etc...not sure what the big gift would be.

My mom gave my brother and SIL - a stock the medicine cabinent - which was cute because they both lived at home before they got married and that stuff adds up. It was a basket of all stuff you need from the drug store for your medicine cabinent.

I have also giving my SIL a wash bucket for the kitchen and filled it with cute and fun kitchen gadgets.

I will keep thinking of more...

I can use some baby shower ideas too!! I have a lot of preggo friends and so lots over the winter/spring!

My mom also decorated a rolling pin and used it as a guest book/sign in. It was the same rolling pin that was used as a guest book at her shower. It had ribbons with hearts at the end and people can write wishes on the hearts.

(PS don't mind the attached center peanut for lack of a better word - the little fellow was added to be funny by my mom...she had them scattered on tables all around the shower...my DH's grandma thought they really were peanuts..)

Erica - the blanket looks great!

Jen G - good luck with the quilt, I can't wait to see pics!

Niecey - I love the rolling pin idea, even more so that your mother had the same one at her shower!!
