in need of advice

in need of advice

FH and i got engaged in December. We are both feeling very discouraged when it comes to wedding planning. Neither of our families are willing to help financially and arent really supportive otherwise. We have been together for 5 years and are very ready to take the next step. It has been very hard feeling like no one really cares what we do that it has gotten to the point where we are really considering getting married at the courthouse.

If we do decide to have a wedding/reception, it will be very small. What are some locations that will take small occassions? What are some of the cheaper RH?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

The Riviera is very nice and affordable. I don't know how much you want to spend but you can get a sunday afternoon for a great price.

Hey! I am so sorry to hear that! Just remember that all that matters is the two of you. You love each other and you should celebrate that in whatever way you choose! I am getting married at the Thatched Cottage. In the Sunday newsday there was a bridal planner section. When you first open it up, there is an advertisement for them which says they do small sunday brunch weddings for about 50 people for $49.95 pp. I am sure there are other places and hopefully you get some suggestions. Good luck and congrats on your engagement!

Thanks everyone. I guess what hurts is that my brother got married a few months ago and my helped him. I really feel like FH and I have no one we can depend on that really cares about us. Since day 1 my mom has made nasty comments to me about us getting married.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I don't really have any family and my FH's family don't really care about our wedding. When we told them we got engaged they were not excited. We've been together 5 years too. We are pretty much paying for the whole thing ourselves. For us, this wedding is about us...screw anyone who is not excited for us. We are having the wedding to make ourselves happy. We are keeping it small too.

I highly recommend that you look into Leonard's. I looked at 30 reception halls when I was searching and it was so hard to find a place with a 50 person minimum that had a nice room and that was affordable. Also some places made us feel like our wedding was less important because of the small guest list. Leonard's has been awesome and the price was really reasonable. We met with Antonio. Good luck!!\

If you want to see pictures of Leonard's they are in my album!

Other places that I can suggest are

Westbury Manor's Hill room
Larkfield Manor's Garden Room
Swan Club - although their smaller room is very small, but the grounds are beautiful!
Milleridge Inn Carriage House
Verdi's of Westbury - very affordable
The Metropolitan - The Club. off to the side and downstairs
Watermill - didn't look at it but another 09 bride is getting married there with a 50 guest minimum

You can try the brentwood country club my friend got married there and it was beautiful but they do packages with everything included for really cheap. There are a lot of places that will work with you especially if your willing to do it during the off season (winter)...good luck and remember its about you & your FH not anybody else do whatever makes you happy!!

in my own fanatasy Iw ould've eloped vegas style and then go to blay blackjack in my wedding dress while everyone wished me well and got excvited to see yet another woman in her gown at Belagio in Vegas.........

but that ain't happening

2nd fanatsy, very do able.............

get married at city hall and invite closest friends and family onto a limobus and take them out for a night on the town. Hire a photographer to take photos of you all over manhattan and beautiful spots. End your evening at a fabulous nightspot where everyone can pay their own admission, dance and have drinks.

FH and I are having an after party since our wedding is during the day.

Had our parents not stepped in and helped us out tremendously, that is what we would have done!

good luck!

Smithtown Landing has rooms for smaller parties. Also there are many places that do all inclusive planning, Brentwood Country Club for example.

Keep in mind, the wedding is about you and DH, do what makes you guys happy and also what you can afford.

I'm so sorry to hear. It ***** when the ppl who are most impt. to you (family) are the ones that are making you feel sad. IMHO, I feel it's always best to pay for your wedding yourself (no matter how big or small) this way, you'll have the final say in how you want things and not have to worry about too many ppl pushing their opinions in. You're paying for your wedding and you'll do it exactly the way you want it.

I would suggest you having your wedding during off peak seasons, and maybe even on a thursday or friday evening, or even on Sundays. Weddings on those days seems to be cheaper, and I believe Ve rd i's of West Bury is pretty reasonable.

George Washington Manor is great for smaller weddings - about $60-$80pp ++

I know that Leonard's hosts small weddings and they work with your budget. It is such a beautiful place. If you decide to have a reception you should definitely check it out.

My dad had a small wedding (60-70 ppl) at the Three Village Inn in 2006. It was very nice & very affordable! They did a great job.

Good luck & try to enjoy this time.

Call the people that DO care and are excited for you , have them save a few bucks and elope to Vegas. Have a great party .. its VERY affordable and you would have a great time!

Re: in need of advice

we had our reception at Larkfield Manor with a guarantee of 60 for the small room. the owners and BM were wonderful to work with and we never felt less important because we had a small wedding in their second room. they give you oodles of wondeerful food and the staff is exceptionally efficient.

you might also try harbor club in huntington - - upstairs room. for a small wedding they suggest to cut down on the number of items at the cocktail hour which can lessen the per person cost a bit.

stuart thomas manor in farmindale also is reasonable.\

but if the price at LM is w/imn your budget you won't go wrong there at all.

The Riviera is a great place. I am getting married there and we have a minimum of 110 people.

Others mentioned the Watermill. My sister got married there yrs ago and it was amazing. It is very pretty and the food is great.
