Poll! Day before, or after?!?

We are having a reception. (not this year)

It will be the week of Thanksgiving - either the day before, or the day after. (Wednesday or Friday.)

He's an untenured teacher, so taking days off for a honeymoon will be a little difficult, SO we'd prefer the Wednesday, so we can leave Thursday (thanksgiving) for a honeymoon, and spend the next week away (he can use his wedding days, and 2 personal days for that week.)

His Mom FLIPPED OUT when I said Wednesday. She said, 'Well nobody's going to come on a Wednesdayyyy, I've never heard of such a thing!!!'

She made me feel pretty lousy about that...

What do you think?

I would totally do the Wednesday!! You might get a pretty good deal on price also because it is a Wednesday. A lot of people do this day. I am in the same situation w/the untenured teacher thing so we're having our wedding over the summer.

I am getting married the day after Thanksgiving this year!!! We have been to 2 weddings over the past few years on that day and they were the best we have ever been to!!! Our hall is already decorated for the holidays too which makes it even more beautiful!!

the day before thanksgiving is too hard on people IMO. people have to cook and prepare food and often have a lot of people over for the holiday. they won't be able to do that if they have a wedding the night before. you may get a lot of people leaving very early because they have company coming (or they have to travel) the next day.

YES i think they will come on that wednesday, it is no different than on a Friday... and a lot of businesses tend to let people out early on the wednesday before thanksgiving! Most dont do that on random fridays like the rest of the yr when weddings are planned!

Most people are also ready to party the wed before thanksgiving.. the friday after, they may all feel stuffed and tired from the early bird xmas shopping?!?!

I think that wed would be a great way to start off the long Thanksgiving weekend!! There are plus and minus for them both...

In the end it is up to you and FH.. not FMIL!!!

I am getting married the day after Thanksgiving because most people have off and this way people still have the whole weekend. Some of my guests said that they will be traveling, and some have said 'ohh, the day after thanksgiving???? why that day???'

My opinion is that the people who really matter and want to be there, will be there no matter what day it is on. The people that complain about it are going to complain no matter when or where you have it. So, do what you want to do and feel comfortable doing.

day after- anyone who is hosting a thanksgiving dinner will be inconvenienced when they have to prepare everything the day OF thanksgiving instead of the night before.

What about the weekend before (or the friday) Thanksgiving? I have been to a wedding on that weekend (it was the Friday night) and it was great. Travel is easier for anyone who is OOT, and you can leave for HM that weekend, and only have to take the three days off for a 9 day HM (wedding Friday, leave Sat., HM thru T-day, come home following Sunday).

Might be more $, tho. Just a thought.

Otherwise, I'd pick the day after T-day. I think people would have a hard time with the day before between taking the day off from work, traveling, and preparing for T-day. If you have any OOT guests, they'd have to spend T-day in the airport or in a hotel!

Honestly, unless it was a good friend I wouldn't attend the wedding on a Wednesday. Friday would definitley be the way to go in my opinion.

Please do not take offense (anyone) but that weekend is hard in general. That is the biggest travel week of the year and it may be hard for OOT people. Now, if you don't have that many OOT people then I would go for the Wednesday!

If I only had a choice of Wednesday or Friday I'd choose Friday. But I also agree that T'day weekend is chaotic for OOTers. Airline prices are usually steeper for that weekend. You couldn't do the summer months?

I would do the Wed., if you need the other days for travel. It's your wedding! No one else can make that call! Besides, how many halls sell Thurs. nights! A lot!

The Wednesday before! You will get a great deal, and many people leave early from work that day anyway. If they love you, they will come. I wanted to do it that Wednesday, but FH said no!
