I'm trying to figure out if I need the extra expense of an MC just to announce the introductions, that the salad's being served etc...

Re: Are you having a DJ AND MC?
We are having a one man dj/mc combo. Our dj (Vinny fron High Voltage) actually talked us out of having both. He said that if you have a crowd that is going to dance themselves/don't want the whole someone on the floor with a microphone (which we didn't), then it's not really necessary.
I would read your crowd and make a decision. If they're party people, you probably don't need one. Some people think it's about how many people you have, but I think it's more about who's coming.

Re: Are you having a DJ AND MC?
tsk tsk..
if you think that a MC will just do intro's and food annoucements you are soooo mistaken.
It really depends on what you want them for. If you want them to just be heard and not seen then thats fine. But if you want them actively involved (getting the crowd up, holding the mic so you and the girls or guys can sing ) then i suggest getting a separate MC.
Most MC's are NOT DJ's and visa versa. Which means their tone of voice would be different and just the whole feel.
I'm having both but i work for a DJ so i'm very biased.

Re: Are you having a DJ AND MC?
We had both...our MC was awesome, he got people up and dancing the whole time. It was totally worth it...but I agree with the poster who said that it depends on your crowd. If your crowd is going to dance no matter what and they're party people, you might not need an MC to get things going.
We had just a DJ and it really wasn't an issue. Between the Event Manager and the DJ, we just didn't need an extra person. Our DJ, though, did make a point to say that when there is a really large wedding (over 200 people) having an MC makes things easier on him, so I think it's really about how many people you have there and if you need an extra person to help out with coordinating the night, taking requests, etc. and how involved do you want your DJ to be? Do you want him just spinning music or do you want him getting out and leading participation dances, talking to people, etc.? Again, depending on how many people there are, he can do that alone, or you need to have an MC there.

Re: Are you having a DJ AND MC?
We are having both...We feel its a good idea to have one with the type of people that will be attending...FH's family barely gets out of their seats to dance so we figure they could use the extra encouragement. IMO the MC also add's another element to the reception, a bit more energy and fun atmosphere.

In my opinion, get both.....The MC makes the DJ I think! He roars the crowd up and gets people to dance! Thats if you get a good MC though =)
I have a great one and seen him in action! If you want any info...FM me =)

Re: Are you having a DJ AND MC?
I had both and everything ran very smoothly. I had a lot of guests in my wedding so I felt that I needed two people instead of one. I also feel that the DJ can handle things alone if that's what you choose.
