I am hoping for only 125-130 ppl. I am doing my final guest list soon and I want to get a realistic idea of how many I should invite?

Re: Number invited VS RSVP'D YES
On average 20% decline. We had a higher decline rate as a lot of DH's family is in Europe and none of them came. Also we invited a lot of friends/co-workers from CA and only a handful attended.
We invited about 350 and had 225 attend.
Taking out the Europe crowd (which we knew weren't coming), we invited 300 and had 225 attend - which was a 25% decline.

Re: Number invited VS RSVP'D YES
you shouldn't make your guest list up by your final numbers, it should be by who you want there.
But based on your numbers, you should be inviting at least 150.
How many did you guarantee? If its 125, you may want to invite some more just to be sure you make the guarantee. Friends of ours were very careful with their guest list and cut a lot of people that looking back they wish they had invited. In the end, they were 9 plates under their minimum.
We only guaranteed 185, so we knew we weren't going under. But while the rsvps were coming in I was a little afraid we were going to have 265!

Re: Number invited VS RSVP'D YES
Thanks Lisa.
My guarantee for my room is 115 which is good.
Like I said I do not want to go over 130.

Re: Number invited VS RSVP'D YES
thats good - you've got some extra room there. If you have a lot of out of town guests, expect a higher decline rate. If everyone's local, its likely to be lower.

Re: Number invited VS RSVP'D YES
I too was way off from the 20% decline rate. I had invited 270 people. I had 175 show up. My room min. was 150.
I really thought I would get about 200 (lot of old out of town distant relatives of our parents and grandparents-figured they would be at least 50 people) but wound up with 175. I will tell you all the yes's came first and I really thought we were going to get the whole 270! But the no's came the last week or so if they even came (had to call and some still haven't responded)!!!
I invited 240...but 20 were from Spain...didn't come...10 from work...I invited knowing they wouldn't come (just didn't want to invite one and not the other)...I invited about 30 people who were single, with guests and most didn't bring anyone...(I think only 3 people brought guests that I didn't know)
we ended up with 155...min 150...at first I thought there were going to be 180...then I started getting nervous we wouldn't make our min...so you may never be able to predict

Re: Number invited VS RSVP'D YES
Some people that I thought for sure were going to come, declined for various reasons. My room minimum was 130. I invited 150 and only 125 came.

Re: Number invited VS RSVP'D YES
I invited 270. Many were form out of state and only wound up with 209. I had a minimum of 125, which I knew would not be a problem to make.

Re: Number invited VS RSVP'D YES
We invited about 200 and had about 140 rsvp yes. We had a lot of people out of state that we knew wouldn't be able to make it. My father was ill & couldn't make it so a bunch of people on his side didn't come.

Re: Number invited VS RSVP'D YES
We invited around 175 and ended up with 130 - 25% decline rate.
DH invited a lot of family he's not close with at all and there were a few out of state people that couldnt make the trip.

Re: Number invited VS RSVP'D YES
About the same percentage rate as a previous poster-20% decline/regret. Both our mothers come from very large families and many can not attend. My mother's extended family lives Hong Kong, some in Australia, DH's father's extended family lives in Japan, many Canadians, and out-of-state US but could not attend. We invited about 230 or so which also includes children of all ages-married or unmarried and had a 150 minimum guarantee. We were hoping for an acceptance of 140 but received about 130 acceptances. We knew a lot of those in Hong Kong were unable to travel to NYC but some did, no one came from Japan as we were hoping, some in Australia, some Canada, and some out-of-state US traveled. Thus, it brought our decline/regret rate to about 25% as we thought that some were coming from Japan and more from Canada and US. We even put invited significant others/dates of our BP or friends using 'Mr. XXX & Guest' on the invitation envelope. However, one can not force another to bring a guest as the option was open. We counted our guest list numerous times trying to finalize the count.
Thus, a month before our wedding we were scrambling for 20 more people to invite using our 'B' list. In the end we did however fulfill our 150 adult minimum guarantee with our mothers' friends. However, I think there were 2 no shows from the initial RSVP of the 'will attend.'

Re: Number invited VS RSVP'D YES
We invited about 280, some were from Italy and some from Rob's family (that he is more distant with), we had about 195 people respond yes. My min. was 200, so I asked a few of my mom's friends and they were delighted to come, so altogether, I had 201! Whew ....

Re: Number invited VS RSVP'D YES
We invited 175 and had 107.
Unfortunately, we lost a relative 9/11 (26 days before our wedding) so we had some declines as a result of that.
