If I'm schedule to get my period the week of my wedding, anybody know what to do to offset it a week or two? Do I just continue to take the white pills and skip the sugar pills? How long can you do this for? Help!

If you go straight to taking the next pack of white pills and bypass the sugar pills, you will not get your period.

Beth, talk to your GYN. I think it's best to set if off in April instead of waiting till May, just in case.
But yes, most of the time you can just continue the active pills and this will delay the period. Trouble is if you're honeymooning for like a week or so, you may end up w/some spotting during the week. Your gyn s/b able to tell you which is the best way to go.

Yeah, I have the same question. That was actually my first post on this site. I wanted to pic a date around my schedule, but that didn't happen. I think you can skip the green ones, then you won't get it that month. But whose to say that will happen? I am going to the doc next month also. That will be one of the questions that I ask!!!!!

Re: For those on the Pill
recent studies say you can do it indefinitely, and never get your period. But I don't know about that.
I've done it a bunch of times to 'reschedule' things.
You have it right - just skip the sugar pills and keep taking the real ones. You can do it for the whole month (skipping your period that month) or just for a week to push it back.
I recommend you do it for your next period and not wait for your wedding. Some women have side effects (headaches, spotting, etc) and you don't want to deal with that for your wedding/honeymoon. I never had any side effects.

I think there is a way to off-set it...I know I have changed mine by 4 days...I didn't take the last 2 'hormone' pills....I would talk to the doctor and find out exactly how...

LisaT, You say you used it to reschedule, so if I take the pack all through June, skip the white pills and start a new pack for the first week of July, then go on the white pills, I can 'reschedule'?

Re: For those on the Pill
When I want to skip a month, I just don't take the placebo pills and start a new pack. But I'm on a pill that has the same amount of hormones each week. If you're on a pill that has different amount of hormones each week (I think it's called triphasic), it may not work. I would talk to your GYN before you do anything.

Re: For those on the Pill
the pill was originally intended (from what i've read) to be used that way, no placebo week, no period. but then they though, wait how will anyone know if the pill is working or if they're pregnant, so they added the placebo week. i also have this problem. i plan on skipping the placebo week in august thereby adjusting my schedule by a week. but talking to your doctor is probably a good bet, just to make sure.

Re: For those on the Pill
what my doc had me do the last time was finish my pack - forego the sugars & go directly to the last week of 'real' pills on the next pack, have my period the following week & start a new pack after my period.... if that made any sense at all........

Re: For those on the Pill
It depends on what type of pills you're on. I'm on Ortho Tri-Cyclen, and since it's a tri phasal pill, skipping the sugar pills and starting a new pack does not work. I tried it once, and it completely screwed me up, for a couple of months actually. If you're on a pill that gives the same dose of hormones every day, it should work, but I would talk to your GYN first.

I would just ask your Gyn to be on the safe side. Everyone's body is different.

Re: For those on the Pill
StayandJohn - thats what I've done. Skip the placebos and instead take the first week of pills in a new pack and then stop. It depends how far you want to reschedule. If its only a week, that works fine. If you want 2 weeks, takes the next two weeks of pills.
You also could skip for the whole month, by finishing the new pack altogether. (that changes your schedule by a week). See what works best on the calendar.
I've been on pills that have the same level of hormones, and well as those that change throughout the month. It worked with both.

Re: For those on the Pill
Really LNP? I did it, and instead of my period not coming, I had it for two weeks straight! My doctor said it was because the pill was tri phasal. I dunno, I guess it really is different for every person.

Re: For those on the Pill
I skipped my placebos and went onto a new pack w/o consulting my doctor... and it was horrible. because my dose is low, it didn't work and instead I had light bleeding my entire honeymoon. Then I had to take a month off from the pill and start taking it all over again. I would ask your ob/gyn before you do this.

Re: For those on the Pill
I also think you should talk to your doctor, but as others have suggested, try to skip the week now instead of at the time of the wedding. I skipped once and had some side effects that would have been terrible during the wedding/honeymoon.

Re: For those on the Pill
LNP and Someday: My nurse practioner wanted to switch me to a trip phasal pill and when I asked her if I'd have problems skipping a period, she said maybe. She said some people have no problem and some people do. So I ended up not switching.

Re: For those on the Pill
My OBGYN told me to just skip the sugar pills and to start the next pack of pills, and that would delay my period for one month...NOPE!!!
Instead I BLED FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND I GOT TERRIBLY SICK! So be sure to alter your cycle now (but talk to your MD before doing so), and not wait for the month before the wedding.
