1/7/03 Question of the day. How do you divide the household chores w/DH?

We both work, in fact I have 2 jobs and we have 2 kids so there is a lot of cleaning to be done.
I'm just wondering how everyone gets the job done in their home.
Yesterdays subjuct about Dad's not being helpful enough made me think of it.

Rich cooks about 50% of the time
I cook about 30%
we eat out the other 20%

Nicole sets the table(when she's w/us)
I usually clean up after meals-the kids help sometimes

I do the laundry, my son does his own.

Rich & usually food shop together on the weekend
Rich cleans the fridge everyweek.

I clean the bathrooms-sometimes I ask the kids to clean theirs.

Rich mops the kitchen floor

I do all dusting & light daily maintaince stuff.

The kids are responsible for their own rooms.

We live in a townhouse so all of our outside work is done for us.

Brian is in charge of garbage.

That's all I can think of now. I'm really grateful that Rich helps as much as he does. I don't how how career Moms that don't have helpful hubbies do it!

No kids yet and in an apartment so we have it easier than some. We do both work full time jobs with sometimes crazy hours so most of our chores are done on the weekend.

We don't have them totally divided out but for the most part this is what we do:

Dinner - I cook most weekdays and Sundays. We usually go out or order in Fridays and Saturday. We usually washed the dishes (all though I wash a lot as I am cooking).

Cleaning - I do a lot of daily maintenance to keep things orderly. I do most of the cleaning but he does help when asked. Mostly he will do the kitchen and I do the reast of the apartment (2 bedrooms, living room, dining room and bath).

Laundry- we usually go to the Laundry-mat on the weekends together, depending on the weekend. Or we just do our own as the need arises.

Food and Drug Store - For the most part I take care of this - but it is more a pickup as needed shopping. We will go to Costco together. He doesn't mind going food shopping on his own every now and then.

He takes out most of the garbage (I help out but I hate doing this for some reason!)

Re: 1/7/03 Question of the day. How do you divide the household chores w/DH?

I cook most of the time...we eat so little, I cook the largest meal on Sunday and it usually last for 3 days. Then he or I will cook a light meal in the middle of the week to take us to Friday. So cooking in our home is only done 2 times at the most.

I do the laundry, hubby unpacks and put away.

I am about to have SS do his own...the boy is way too lazy and he is way too grown now, about to start having sex...I refuse to wash any boy/man's clothes that is having sex, (at least the ones that are not having it with me) that mean you are grown.

We both do grocery shopping together, he loves shopping, like a kid, he puts everything in the darn cart. w/o the list we are lost.

Hubby does the bathrooms

SS does kitchen floors and dishes

Hubby does garbage

I do all dusting

What division? I do it all! j/k

I do many of the chores, but I'm home from work so much earlier than DH that I really can't expect them to be divided equally. He's more helpful on the weekends though.

We kinda of share the chores. I do all the cooking, wash the dishes, ironing and laundry.

DH takes out the trash, makes the bed, and will occasionally dust.

We dont really divide the chores,,, On Saturday mornings he we pick rooms, like ill take the bathroom, bedroom and dining room, and hell take living room and kitchen!!

There are things that i ALWAYS do and things that he SHOULD always do like:

He takes out the garbage
I do the laundry
I do the cooking

We pretty much share the responsibilities of the dogs.. but now that hes home and im working he takes on that role a little bit more, and i dont mind cause i hate having to walk them in the bitter cold. plus i have to dress up my little one in a coat and shoes cause the snow sticks to him if i dont and i dont want him to catch a cold!

We share all the chores around the house. If I cook he washes dishes and if he cooks he washes dishes. Things like that.

I will do most of the cleaning and laundry. I dont trust him with cleaning He doesnt do a very good job. I cook most of the time, but he will cook if Im coming home late.
Hubby also takes care of home improvement projects, as well as doing outside work. So I take care of the inside

Shamma You're too funny about your ss's clothes!! I feel the same way about my son-I make him clean the toilet in his bathroom for that reason, I know that Nicole & I don't pee on thie sides!!

Kelly, my hubby actually sits to pee, so I know when there is Pee its him. I spoke to him about it, but it continues. I say to keep my sanity I think that is why God provided us with a second bathroom, I no longer have to deal. That is why I let hubby handle bathrooms. I refuse to wipe pee. If you can't pee straight you need to sit or hold your thing.

We have a dog too-
Brian feeds him everyday after school, we all walk him, Nicole usually baths him.

Shamma-how does you're meal thing work-do you prepare more than one dish on Sunday?

Re: 1/7/03 Question of the day. How do you divide the household chores w/DH?

That is another reason hubby and I switched who did what chores, he would dry all my sweaters and my gym clothes...so I had to do the laundry and he does not know how to separate. If he is doing the laundry I have to separate before he goes and I have to tag what is not to be dried

Kelly I forgot to say, I think young boys should learn to be self sufficient, they should always know how to do things for themselves and not be totally reliant on a woman to do all for them. When I met hubby he and his son lived on their own, he can sew, bake, cook, clean everything, that is why I am so surprised that SS is so helpless.

I do it all.

He doesn't have time for anything else.

Wakes at 4 goes to ground school and flys then comes home around 5 eats dinner and studies then off to bed.

The more he studies the safer I feel with him flying.

So, no complaints here..

Well not really, he went on the atkins diet is on the inuduction phase.. and now I'm cooking for the diet and I'm not on it. Yuck, I need carbs and sugar!!!

Re: 1/7/03 Question of the day. How do you divide the household chores w/DH?

Kelly, I will more than likely cook 2 meats so all hubby will have to do during the week is either make rice or pata or ground provision ie banana, potoato or a salad to go along with it. What I have come to find out is once you buy your meat, when you get it home, portion it off right away and season it and freeze it in protions to be cooked. I do that with salmon, and chicken, there is no beef or pork in our home. When it comes time to cook the meat, it has already been seasoned and the portion to be cooked is ready to go.

We pretty much use the I handle the inside and Mark takes care of the outside. He does, for the most part do his own laundry, and helps inside sometimes. I agree with some of the other ladies, I would rather do it myself, it's just wasier.

Re: 1/7/03 Question of the day. How do you divide the household chores w/DH?

We both work so we share the chores.
We each have our own bathrooms so we clean our own. (thank goodness)
He does all the laundry, and he is good!! He was in the Navy and boy, can he fold!!!
I do all the cooking, he burns frozen pizza!!
I usually clean the kitchen and he'll vacuum all the other rooms. I hate to vacuum. But, for Christmas he bought me a Hoover Windtunnel bagless vacuum, you think that's a hint?

Re: 1/7/03 Question of the day. How do you divide the household chores w/DH?

Lisa, how does the windtunnel bagless works?? do you mind if I ask the cost?? Hubby was showing it to me on the ad. I want to get one. We just recently purchased the swifter mop, has anyone used this. I got a $5 off coupon out of the paper so I got it for $18. If you have used it, how is it??? Do you have to keep using their refills or you can use your own bucket and Mr Cleam??

Re: 1/7/03 Question of the day. How do you divide the household chores w/DH?

Shamma, the vacuum is still in the box! LOL
I want to try it but am still recovering from my surgery and am afraid to lift or push anything that will rip a stitch.
I'll ask him later how much it was. I know its the self propelled one.
I have the Clorox mop and I love it!! I heard the Swiffer is even better!! You don't use a bucket with it, but you can use your own solution. Just save the bottle that hooks on to the stick and refill it with whatever you want!

Re: 1/7/03 Question of the day. How do you divide the household chores w/DH?

Thanks Lisa, I appreciate that I can't wait to use it. We have whitel linoneum in our kitchen and the only task assigned to my SS and if you don't ask him to sweep and mop the floor it would go dirty for weeks. The kitchen is a high traffic area so it requires more upkeep than most other rooms in our home. So to keep me sane I have bought the swifter. I love a clean living area so I will keep it clean, b/c it will keep me sane. I think I have been labelled ANAL who knows I can't wait to use it tonight. I am so excited
