Do you have to spend a fortune to get a great photographer?

I've been looking at some of the photographers and it seems like you have to spend at least $4,000+ to get great pictures.
Is that true? Can you get the same quality at a much lower price?

IMO, no. I have a wonderful photographer with beautiful pictures and I am not paying $4000. I am paying $2500 from Marcy Studio in Bklyn.

no I dont think you have to spend a fortune. We are using VIP Studios we are paying around $2K. I love their work. They are a vendor here.

It depends on what style you're looking for. If you want traditional, no. If you want photojournalistic, in most cases - yes.

Photography was very important to us, so spending the money on it wasn't a problem.

Yes and No, it depends on your style of photography.

No you don't.....it all depends on the style you're looking for, what you want in terms of albums and reprints....I'm sure most brides will tell you they end up spending more than their original quote afterwards!

I have shopped around and have decided my budget will be ~$2000-$2500, max $2700. In my opinion larger studios ask waaaay too much for the 'bells and whistles'. I am going to use a freelance photographer.

We are spending 2400 with patken, we dont want alot of traditional, more photojournalistic, you just have to tell them what you wnat, they can do it!!! We have Steve and our package comes with alot!! We are very happy we chose them, we shopped around for ahwile and got quotes, patkenes beat everyones and we arent scrificing what we wanted to gte a lower price, they just offerered to us!! We were willing to spend 4,000, that was our budget, and when Is aw jennbabys pics., I knew I was VERY interested in Patken, I just didnt think we could afford them, i thought they were over our budget, but they work with you, they dont have set packages..you tell them what you want and thats what you get!

i have a package from them for 2600, their work is beautiful and more affordable than it looks!

If you want traditional, you can get photography for around 1500 to 2500. If you enjoy the journalistic kind and letting the photographer freedom in creativity...then it would cost you much more. There is a difference in the styles. I myself feel that photography is very important. Much more important than alot on my wedding day. So we spent much more.

But there is a difference.

They are awesome.

They will work with you on everything. Steve is my photographer and is an absolute GEM!! He is an angel of photography.

They will customize to fit your needs and budget. We sat with Doug and Vinny and they made us feel so at home and so comfortable. Whatever we wanted we got and really made us feel like we were the only couple in the world.

I agree - it depends on what you're looking for. But let me tell you - if you're into more candids and when you go to the more expensive photographers there is no going back!!!!!! We were looking for more candids....I saw Mark Kauffman last night and loved his albums and was a little scared of the $3,000 price without albums.

Then we saw the most amazing photographer today $4,500 - holy cow....but they were the most beautiful, artistic, stunning pictures we've seen - she creates such a mood it is unbelievable. And we're way out on the east end and she's in the same town! My FH could not be more excited...But it is really scary how much photographers cost.

You'll only have two things after your wedding....pictures and video. Don't be sorry you didn't spend the money to get stunning pictures is my opinion.
