Tipping questions who, how much and when?
Do you tip the photographer? If so what %?The priest? I know the Matrie'd, florist delivery person, and how much do you give to the bridal attendant?
Who am I forgetting?

Re: Tipping questions who, how much and when?
I think the Maitre'd is 2-3 dollars a head. Don't know about the priest, I am curious about that too. What about limos and video!!! Photographer, we are probably going to tip $50. Coat person (we'll have one) $50. Everyone is really going to get what they deserve that day. If they do a good job we'll be generous. If they stink, they'll be lucky with what they get.

Re: Tipping questions who, how much and when?
Oh and Valet Parking. We will probably tip each valet $25, because I know they will get tips from the guests. But I want to give them something.

Re: Tipping questions who, how much and when?
Would you still have the tip the Maitre De' even if tips are included in the price your paying at the hall?I was planning on tipping the following:
Photographer-$50
Videographer-$50
DJ- $100 (2 guys)
Is that ok? or should it be higher?

Re: Tipping questions who, how much and when?
Where are you people getting these figures from?$50 for the photo and you're giving $50 to the coat check? $50 for the video, $50 for the photographer and $100 for the DJ?
Think about it, the photographer and the videographer are the two that are with you the longest in the day....right? They should get atleast $100 each. The DJ (if you have one...and desire to tip) is there for the four hours....should get $50. the coat check girl/guy works off tips and gets a cut of the gratuities from all around (bar, bathroom, coat check, etc. Limo guys, go figure??? They have it written into their contract the amount (I don't understand that). Priest gets a donation to the church. Alter Boys/girls receive $25 to $50 each. I'd type more, but I'm sitting in Bryant Park and it's freezing here ouside. I'd gladly email anyone my thoughts..
But Geeezzzzz......tipping the same amount to the coatroom person and the photographer/videographer is.....I can't even think about it.
Jill
PS....sorry to go off, rough day in the office. but seriously....photographer and videographer.

Re: Tipping questions who, how much and when?
this what ive heard:priest- they get a 'donation' to the curch. its anywhere from $300-$500. you have to tip organist and singer separately.
Limo Driver- they never see $ form contract- a friend of mine told me that. Since they are onyl doing drop offs for me, about $25
maitre D- between $200-$250.. that is not included in hall gratuity
bridal attendant- about $200 depedning on how good they are. my sister had one and took care of her all night.
DJ- about $50
photographer- now im not sure.. my photographer is also the owner... do I tip in that case? please let me know.
flower delivery guy- $20
coat check- i wasnt tipping anything since they work off tips. same with bartender.
who am i missing?

Re: Tipping questions who, how much and when?
VideographerIf the owner is working your party from any company you don't tip them. Instead you tip the assistants.

Re: Tipping questions who, how much and when?
Sorry, but I am going to tip what I can afford. Sorry if you don't agree. However, I am giving the photo and video $50 tip plus I am paying $65 for them to eat at my wedding. And considering I have not seen final products, I am not going to over due it. As for the coatroom, that person is not getting fed by me and not for nothing, lugging peoples coats and hanging them up ( and trust me in February they are heavy, plus I am having 200+ people) I think $50 is a fine amount to give them at the least. These are really just estimates, considering I don't know what service I will receive on that day. If its good maybe more, if they stink less.

Re: Tipping questions who, how much and when?
Excellent point about the coat woman lugging the heavy coats and not getting feed. I'm sorry....I should have realized that she WORKS for the place and gets feed before hand.but really, it's no biggie...I was just making a point on service. I think I'm going to post a question on here.
Jill
PS...$50 for her to split with the bartenders, waiters and dishwashers should do fine. As well as the tips she'll make for lugging the heavy coats....why she could possibly make almost $250 bucks in a night.

Re: Tipping questions who, how much and when?
this is what I gathered from everything I have seen, definately do what you can afford, but I got 2-3 per guest for the Matre D, 100 for the photographer, 100 for the videographer, 100 for the DJ or 50 , 25 per ceremony musician, 25 per band musician, thats all I can remember right now. Alot of halls have gartuity included which covers the coat check, valet etc, it usually covers everyone except teh Matre D and the bridal attandant. Hope this helps..

Re: Tipping questions who, how much and when?
thankfully, gratuities for the matre'd, wait staff and the valet parkers are in the contract and we pay for that up front- I don;t think we have to tip on top of that- right? I should check but I'd assume not...I think $100 for each photographer and videographer is ok but everyone has to decide what they can afford.
My question is the band- does anyone know what the standard amount is? We have an 8-piece band. 2 of those people are playing for our ceremony and 2 for the cocktail hour. Should we tip each member the same amount or does the leader get more or do the people doing the extra services get more? Any advice???

mindyl28-if you are talking about the gratuity that is charged on your contract, that does not include the maitred and bridal attendant. i know it stinks b/c its $$ enough!
