Re: October 2004 Brides.. where did the time go?
You are so far ahead of me, that if you freak out, I have nowhere to go but completely postal!!
I can't believe I'm getting married a year from next Friday! I'm worried about the weather, too, but I do remember someone saying that the Farmer's Almanac said next October was going to be warmer (yay!) and wetter (bleh) than usual. I have GOT to get moving on this. I want all the major vendors booked by the end of the month and I don't know if I'll be able to do it!

Re: October 2004 Brides.. where did the time go?
Yeah that money thing is killing me.We (FH&I) went out for Japanese last night to celebrate our one night out of two nights out a month. We've decided that for now we will only eat out twice a month and take Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwiches to the offices to save more money.
We're trying to dwindle our grocery bill to $25 a week. That's supposed to include lunch & dinner for 7 days. Thank god its cooler now. Soups for lunch don't sound as bad.
Think Im going to try Crystal light again. See if I can find a flavor I like. It's cheaper than bringing cokes to the office.
All that and I can only HOPE to have $200 a month to parcel out to my vendors. Thank god Music by Michael will let me pay tiny by tiny. He's knows if he gets $50 buck from me every month that I'm trying.
Still... I sweat about it. What if I don't have the money???? *sigh* I HAVE to find a way!

Re: October 2004 Brides.. where did the time go?
Im actually thinking of going over to my local Barnes & Nobles to find out if they need Holiday Help. Just to help pay for the wedding.Still not sure if I can pull that off. I have a heavy work load for the last quarter that sometimes keeps me late, physical therapy for my knee 2 to 3 times a week and then a part time job maybe? Whew.. this is gonna be one hell of a special day I'll tell ya that!

Re: October 2004 Brides.. where did the time go?
It will be worth it! The money thing worries me, too. I think it worries all of us. I just opened an ING account w/FH so that I can have funds automatically deducted from both of our accounts to start the real wedding savings. I don't have any catering money due until next month, and that's only $1000, but I would like to be able to pay a little more each time so that I can pay it off sooner. I have to pay every other month or so. I gave Michael the full 20% deposit which leaves me with payments of $100/month for the next 12 months. That's not a big deal. HOWEVER, I still don't have a photographer/videographer or florist, so who knows how many payments I'm going to have to make every month!
OK, now I'm freaking out again, because I also have to pay half of my salary towards student loans every month on top of everything else. Man, now I have a headache from thinking about this. Is one year really enough time??

Re: October 2004 Brides.. where did the time go?
Jann,stupid question, but...
Have you thougth about getting an appeasment for your student loan? FH did for his. We used financial hardship. Technically he makes plenty, but add up all the bills and the wedding and he makes ZERO. So we got that bill put off until after the wedding.
Just a thought.

Re: October 2004 Brides.. where did the time go?
I don't want to do it. I get some money from the law school towards my loan repayment ($3500 this year, $7000 next year) because I work in public interest and make next to nothing, plus, in order to forbear my loans for any period of time, I have to use a deferment first of 6 months and I only get two of those for the next 30 years and don't want to waste it. I figure that should be saved just in case I ever desperately need it (out of work, major catastrophe, etc.). I can handle the loans, for the most part, especially with the money from the school, but it just means that I can't really save all that much and have to rely on FH to save most of it. I also have 15-year and 30-year payouts, and I can't increase the term of the 15-year loan and I don't want to spend 30 years paying off the other, if that makes sense. It's like having a mortgage and I really don't want to have to worry about interest accruing and longer repayment periods. It stinks, but I look at it like a fixed obligation that I can't get around, which has to take precedence over the wedding.

Re: October 2004 Brides.. where did the time go?
Sorry to answer your question to X, Tara, but it usually depends on the lender and whether the loans are private educational loans or Stafford. 'Financial hardship' may vary, so your best bet would be to contact your lender.

Thanks to you the both of you! I appreciate the info. I am going to look into it, but my gut feeling right now is if I can do it, I am going to keep paying so I can get my student loans paid off and out of my hair!

Re: Renamed: Jannshari is calling Xelindrya mean names
Nutball? And you say you're not rude.. stop using those fancy lawyer terms like nutball!Dumb uneducated folks like me can't follow!
I went to school only one single year. Really bad things happened and I never finished school.
Hope to start up (yes, from stratch) after the wedding.
My ONE year took me 5 years to pay off. I deferred it around 3 times. Once for only a month, the other two times were for 6 months. Once when I had absolutely no money and could barely feed myself (boy I love my car) and the second was when I moved to NYC.
I kept with it. But it was nice to know if things got rough I could take a break.

Re: Renamed: Xelindrya is a tattletale
Not getting a college degree does not = dumb or uneducated. FH never finished college (I don't even know if he finished 2 years) and he makes way more than I do and also just started his own business. Sometimes, the school of life is far more educational than actual schools are. Needless to say, I have $120,000 in loans JUST from law school that, by the time I'm finished paying off (if I stick with the schedule I have) will be $290,000. I'm thinking I'm the dumb one!

Re: Renamed: Jannshari is calling Xelindrya mean names
Heh.. just thought about it for a moment.Im living proof that not having a college degree isn't a handicap unless you allow it to be.
I have three professional designations and a good job. I had to work my butt off each time but it's been worth it. Nothings ever been given to me but all that I have is well appreciated.
Heck! I actually moved to New York City with no job, no job offers and no idea where to even begin. I had no family, ONE single friend (boyfriend who became exboyfriend while I was here) and no place to live. It can be done.
Now my college degree (or the lack thereof) is just really annoying! I see college grad students stroll into better positions that me with no idea how to whip their butts (actually one really didn't know you had to turn off the water facets in the bathrooms 'aren't they automatic?' even tho she manually turned it on) .
Hope I can get credit for Life Lived Knowledge. heh!

Jannshari,You're not dumb.. just.. well.. hrmmm.... nevermind
LOL
Seriously I think it's great you finished law school, we always talk about how there's not enough women attornies.
I wish basic college was free. That's all. It always feels like college is really only for the rich and the extra brainy lucky few. The rest of us have to use blood, sweat and tears to finish.

Re: Renamed: I thought we were talking weddings here?
I think higher education should be free...or at least manageable for the average Joe. Thankfully, my parents gave up everything to put me through college (although I feel horrible about that, mostly since my mother doesn't let me forget it). Law school was always a dream for me, but I also knew that I was on my own for that. My loans would have been half what they are if Brooklyn wasn't so expensive to live in. Literally half of my loans financed my life outside of school! Ridiculous!!And if you knew what I'm making now, you wouldn't even hesitate to call me dumb!
You can at least revel in the fact that you know you've earned your position and that you did it on your own...just the same as you can revel in the fact that you created your wedding and made it yours on your own as well (see how I brought it back around to weddings?)!
