Need advice on Bridesmaid dress
Hi Folks;
I have a bridesmaid that was (by measurement standards) told to order her dress in a size 22!!. She is a 14. Problem: She had a fitting last week and the dress was swimming on her. I said to the manager that this was not the size they should have ordered, but she measured her again and said, "according to the manufacturer, this is what is recommended to order", which was true.. I saw the sheet that stated this. The problem is that the seamstress continued to pin seams down the front of her dress over each leg because there was way too much material to bring to the side seam. My other girls do not have seams down the front so I told her NO! you can't do that. She supposedly is now making "points", which is where you take it in over each leg and then let it flare out. My other girls do not have this and now I'm afraid her dress is going to look totally different. We are going back tonight to have her hem done and I don't know how to handle the situation if the dress looks totally different. Also, she had to pay $35.00 extra for the bigger size/more material, which they are basically cutting out of the dress. What should I say?
I wish I had another year to plan, but I can't wait for it to be here already! See you all!

Kate,
We had the same EXACT problem with one of my bridesmaids...she had to pay the extra amount for the bigger size or she was not guaranteed the cap on alterations. But when they saw how ABSOLUTLY HUGE the dress was on her, they took responsibility and aren't charging her for ANY alterations...not even a hem. You should try to negotiate with them regarding that first. Then, you shouldn't worry about how the dresses look down to the seams...nobody will notice that....
I love that website! I'm planning on getting my labels there too. Any problems ordering? How did they come out? How long did it take to get them?

They didn't have a dress size between 14 and 22? That sounds strange. I agree that you should not have to pay for any alterations on this dress. Although bridesmaids dresses tend to run small it looks like the manufacturer made an error on their measurement card. At most a 14 should equate to a size 18 which is 2 sizes larger and the bridal shop should have known that. If this is the same place you got your dress they owe you a big favor and this should be it. I wouldn't worry about it not looking exactly the same as the other dresses. That seems to be more and more popular these days anyway. Good luck.
I'm glad you had a good experience, I was a little worried ordering over the internet and from a Candadian co. Thanks so much for the feedback! Yup, I'm doing the daisy theme too and I loved those daisy labels when I saw them.
