Bridal Shower

I've read in some bridal magazines that etiquette says the shower shouldn't be planned by any family member, is this true?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for shower locations in NYC? that aren't very expensive? Maybe a place that can be rented for the day that allow outside cateres. Thanks in advance.

Bridal Shower

My mother is planning my shower b/c she didn't want my bridal party to have to incur the expense. I thought it was extremely generous and thoughtful. The bridal party is already paying for a lot with their dresses, hair and make-up. I totally appreciated her doing this.

thats what etiquette says.. its because a shower is a request for gifts and its supposed to be inappropriate for family members to ask for gifts on your behalf. in my case two of my four bridemaids are out of state, one is my 13 year old sister and the other is close by. she is planning it and my mom and sister are helping (as are my two other bridesmaids, but in limited capacity of course). there are so many etiquette rules involved with weddings, but its been my opinion to use the ones that work for me and throw the rest out. anyone petty enough to judge me on these (out-dated) rules, isn't of concern to me! happy planning, leighann

When we were touring the place they had a sweet 16 set up and everything looked lovely. I would have no complaints if my wedding looked so nice.
