You GOTTA read this book....'WHAT NO ONE TELLS THE BRIDE'
Hi ladies,I read a book yesterday (well at least half of it) during the blackout, and I just wanted to say if you haven't already read it, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it!
It's called 'What No One Tells the Bride.' It's nonfiction and discusses all the 'realities' of being a newlywed, and all the different adjustments and feelings we go through, from losing friends, leaving family to changing our names, married sex, dealing with conflicts, and learning not to lose ourselves completely. It's SO good!
It's a POSITIVE book, too. It explains how even though there are a lot of changes and adjustments, and there may be times where you feel less than thrilled, that you CAN have a happy marriage!
It was so reassuring to know that some of the feelings I've been having are COMMON and NORMAL.
I got mine on Amazon.com. ETS: The author is Marg Stark.
Happy Reading!!

Thanks, I will send this to my GF that works at the library and see if they have it there. I am not buying anymore books, this one sounds interesting.

Re: You GOTTA read this book....'WHAT NO ONE TELLS THE BRIDE'
It's so good Shamma! I wish I had read it BEFORE I got married, so I wouldn't have been so disturbed by some of the things I've been feeling. It even discusses how so many brides to be and newlyweds feel like they are supposed to be SO happy all the time, and SO in love, or SO excited, and if they don't feel that way, or if they have doubts or second thoughts, how they can mistakenly believe they shouldn't get married, or married the wrong person. When in all reality, not everyone is SUPER happy all the time during the planning and the newlywed phase. Some women actually feel sad, angry, anxious or even ambivalent towards the whole thing, and it's not BAD to feel that way.
It's so reassuring to know if you don't feel like the cover girl for Happy Bride Magazine, you are still NORMAL!! There are unrealistic expectations placed on the bride, to be happy, happy, happy! Not everyone fits that description.

I read it while we were engaged. I enjoyed it at first, but I remember not liking it after awhile. I can't recall exactly why not, but I remember thinking it became stupid. I gave my copy away (left it on our stoop for a passerby to take with them)

I'm half way through it, and so far it's not stupid yet. I'll let you know what I think when I finish it up.
But the first half is definitely worth reading in my opinion!

I also read it while we were engaged. I enjoyed it, I think it had a strong start, but laged a little in the end. I gave it to a friend who was getting married b/c overall it was a great quick read.

My sister bought this for me. At first I liked it, but a little less than half way through I got bored and stopped - never finished it!

I read it right before the wedding. It was hilarious. I must have read every bride, wedding themed book before I got married.

Re: You GOTTA read this book....'WHAT NO ONE TELLS THE BRIDE'
I'm three-quarters of the way through now, and I still think it's a great book! The subjects they discuss as the book progresses get more serious, so that's why I think the book takes on a different 'tone' than in the beginning. Discussing children and how they can change the marriage, or discussing money issues is not nearly as entertaining as talking about wedding plans gone wrong, but nevertheless I think they are important subjects to cover.I might even let my DH read it, to get a better understanding of a woman's feelings after she's married. Don't know if he'll be interested...
