Washing EVERYTHING before baby comes?

Do you have to wash all of the baby's clothes before the baby comes home? I've started this task this weekend and I'm wondering if I should wash ALL the clothes or just the receiving blankets, onesies, undershirts, caps, burpcloths, etc.

thanks!

Re: Washing EVERYTHING before baby comes?

I washed EVERYTHING (w/ Dreft)!! I wanted it all done so that 'Just in case' I knew that no matter what the weather/occaion I would have clean clothes. Plus I loved the smell of all the clean clothes.

Re: Washing EVERYTHING before baby comes?

I washed the essesntials (always with Dreft) but I didn't wash all of his outfits that we had bought or received as gifts. I would leave tags on the stuff unwashed so I knew it hadn't been washed. I didn't wash it all because my girlfriend made that mistake and ended up having a preemie that couldn't fit in half of his clothes and once its washed you can't return. She had so many things that she couldn't use because they were shorts and it would be too cold before he would fit in them.

Re: Washing EVERYTHING before baby comes?

I washed the basics as well.. and a few outfits.. My son was the reverse of the preemie....He was huge when he was born (10/5!!!...22.5in!!!) so he only fit into 0-3 for like a week. I ended up exchanging half of his wardrobe for bigger sizes.. Then he had a growth spurt a few months later and pretty much skipped 3-6 and hopped right into 6-9 months clothes!!!! He's now 5 months old (born 3-5-03) and wearing 12mos. clothes since just before 4mos old!! Trust me.. Keep all of your tags on ANYTHING you are not using right away!
