Had my shower this past weekend, too!! But sadness prevailed!

hey ladies,

i've missed you guys. the last few weeks have been crazy. i was in AZ last sunday - thursday and this past sunday was my shower.

when i walked in i could tell right away something was wrong with my grandma. she has been sick for awhile but she really didn't look good and was complaining about tightness around her chest. she wouldn't go in an ambulance, so we had to call my dad, grandfather and brother to come get her and bring her to the hospital. apparently she had another stroke the day before and this time the doctors say she can't go home, my parents are looking into assisted living as we speak.

it breaks my heart - my other grandmother has been in a nursing home for almost a year with severe alzheimers, so i knew in my heart she wouldn't be able to make the wedding. now my other grandmother can't make it either.

knowing that grandma would have wanted the shower to go on, everyone did their best to cheer me up (at that point we didn't know how severe grandma was, we just knew her blood pressure was over 200). the shower was at molly mallone's right by the docks for the FI ferries. my girls did a great job and the food was good, but my heart wasn't really into it. i feel worse for my mom, who knew i was already heartbroken by my other grandmother being unable to attend.

all in all, my shower was a sad day.

I'm so sorry. I know how you feel.

My grandmother had fallen & broken her hip the day before my shower, and then had a pulminary embolism on the operating table when they were replacing her hip the morning of my shower. She almost didn't pull through, but after a few weeks she finally woke up. She missed my wedding, as she's still not home from the physical rehab place. But I used her wedding band for the ceremony, so that she was there. It really made me feel better to have such an important symbol to her with me all day. I wore it most of the time on my right hand, except for the ceremony.

And we plan to take her out to eat at the restaurant my shower was at when she's finally up to it. And I'll show her the raw footage of the ceremony. It's not the same, but it helped.

I was sad at my shower and wedding that she wasn't there, but there was so much love from my other family members, it was really hard to stay so sad for a long period of time. I hope you'll be able to experience the same. It's not as good has having her there, but it helped.

I'm soo sorry to hear about both of your grandmothers.

I know how you feel, I lost my grandmother in April and had to put my grandfather in a nursing home the same week. They missed thier 60th wedding anniversary by 2 weeks. I never met my fathers mother, and my grandfather died when I was 5. It is going to be hard to not have my grandparents there on my wedding day, but they are with us in spirit. I have proof

My aunt got married in June, and my mom walked her down the path (they got married in a rose garden outside since it was her 3rd marriage), and out of NOWHERE as they started to walk down the path, a beautiful butterfly hovered around them until they got to the 'alter' before it flew away. There were no other butterflies around, and this butterfly did not go by anyone else. My mom and aunt started to cry as soon as they saw it. We all knew she was there.
