Re: Astoria Girls: Any Mani/Pedi and restaurant recs?

THE BEST pedicures are at Athena Nails- they do get crowded so go EARLY- but they are on 30th Ave between 31st and 32nd St... (on the North side of 30th Ave).

Restaurants:

1) El Boqueron (Tapas)

2) any Thai place on 30th Ave

3) That Indian Place on 30th ave b/w 34th & 35th St

5) Gaudios Italian Restaurant on 30th Ave just East of Steinway St.

6) NickelodeonInn has great pub food- on Steinway just North of 30th Ave.

Re: Astoria Girls: Any Mani/Pedi and restaurant recs?

I use to go to Cosmo nails - it is off Broadway on 38th (a before Stienway). What are you getting done - a regular manicure? Eileen is really good for everything and so is the girl on the right -desk closest to the pedicures (can't remember her name). Nicole is good for tips from what I see and hear.

Love the tapas Sassy mentioned. I like Thai Angel on 30th Ave that she mentioned as well. If you don't want ambience but lots of yummy food, Tierras Columbianas (sp?) is on Broadway. There are a bunch of good fish/seafood and Greek on both Broadway and 30th.... What kind of food are you looking for? There are so many great restaurants.

I just thought of another great one - Brick Cafe - It is on 33 or 34th right off of 31st Ave. A little more pricey than the regular Astoria places but it was really good.

Another great restaurant that is more so in the Ditmars area is Tratorria Lincontro - awesome and fresh Italian food!!!

El Boqueron is definitely at the top of my list also!

Re: Astoria Girls: Any Mani/Pedi and restaurant recs?

I have to SECOND these votes:

*Athena's Nails - better than any place on earth EXCEPT shes not very 'warm and fuzzy' of a personality. Shes strictly a business woman (and a hell of one at that !! She also owns Eve's nails). Ive gone there for YEARS and have even gotten into arguments with her, shes very opinionated, but I would also find myself going back. The BEST pedicures.
She runs the place like a military camp.

*Cosmo nails - I went to Paul (the owner) for my wraps for over 2 years. He misses my business He's a perfectionist and holds very high standards for everyone that works there. EXCELLENT.

REstaurants = what kind of food ?

Re: Astoria Girls: Any Mani/Pedi and restaurant recs?

I agree about Athena nails - I never get to go there because they are always sooooo crowded!!

Try Cavo for great food and drinks. The food is amzing and the atmosphere is very soho-ish - it's on 31st avenue and 43rd(??) street. The place is beautiful!!

The Indian Place on 30th Ave between 34th and 35th (or 35th & 36th) is VERY good.

Re: Astoria Girls: Any Mani/Pedi and restaurant recs?

Dont know any Indian places sorry Ive eaten at a few, but they werent in Astoria.

My favorite cafe is Zodiacs. Right under the train station at the Grand Avenue stop. (A block over).
If you go to a cafe, and youre also eating, you MUST have a spinach pie, and a avgolemono soup!

Re: Astoria Girls: Any Mani/Pedi and restaurant recs?

Yes- I used to order AND eat in there all the time.

Also- the BEST highlights for hair- go to Ben @ Casablanca on 30th ave b/w 34th and 35th. He is SO nice and so cheap. I had base color plus highlights- for $115. He's never cut my hair though.

It looks like a dump (the hair place) but they are GOOD.
