Anyone commute to NYC from Hicksville train station?

Just wondering what the commute is like? Is parking difficult? How much does it cost?

Thanks!

Re: Anyone commute to NYC from Hicksville train station?

I think it is about a half hour ride. I ride from Brentwood and that is a little over an hour.

Re: Anyone commute to NYC from Hicksville train station?

my hubby does
If you live in levittown you have to pay 6.00 to park your car, DH got a tix once for no sticker so I drop and pick him up when he takes the train
there is not a lot of parking and it is crowded
sometimes if he has to take the train for a day shift and I am asleep he will go to bellmore or wantagh

hicksville is very crowded b/c it is a 'changing' station like Jamaica

The ride is about 45 minutes and can take an hr if you take a train to switch at jamaica
otherwise its 40-45

Re: Anyone commute to NYC from Hicksville train station?

From 6pm to 5am parking's free.
If you have a Town of Oyster Bay sticker it's free and I don't even think you can park in the main lot unless you're from the town.

There's a garage that I guess you can pay for, as someone mentioned.

I always liked that ride. Take the direct train. Goes by pretty fast. 45 minutes.

Re: Anyone commute to NYC from Hicksville train station?

I do that awful commute everyday!! I don't like commuting nor my job so that is my major complaint.
I don't live in Hicksville but I take the train from there. I park my car in the Broadway Mall parking lot and walk from there. Free. You can park there. You can also park on Broadway after the train station if you are going east. You can park on both sides of the road. You might get a spot before the 7:06 express train to Penn. After that you are out of luck. The train ride is about 45 minutes. If you take the 7:37 that changes at Jamaica, it takes about an hour and its hardly ever on time when it gets to Penn.
ETA: You have to be a Town of Oyster Bay resident to park in the station main lots. There is also a parking lot before the train station where you pay guys and you park your car there. I don't do it just b/c I go to the mall and security is always driving around so I know the car is safe.

Re: Anyone commute to NYC from Hicksville train station?

I did that commute (hubby would HOV with me from Ronkonkoma to Hicksville each day) and no matter where you go, unless you live in Jamacia, the LIRR $ucks, $ucks, $ucks.
And with the nice illegal rate hike you are paying even more now.
not easy to park, and the mall is not that close so you need to leave lots of time, plus in cold or rain it would be really harsh to walk.

Re: Anyone commute to NYC from Hicksville train station?

Thanks everyone for the info. I was afraid of that (that you have to be an Oyster Bay resident to park). CW you have FM.
