budgeting

Hi all,

I am in the very first stages of planning...so I'm still figuring the budget. How much do you think a modest wedding (150 guests) will totally cost on Long Island. I figure most sites are about $100 a plate. So, thats 15000. But, other costs Im not sure of. I'm grateful for any help.

Re: budgeting

I'm also getting married in August and just wanted to let you know that usually $100 a plate is for a friday night affair. Saturday nights range from $125-$150. I had to stick with the Friday night althought I would have oved to get married on a Saturday night. I would budget around $30,000 not including your honeymoon.

Re: budgeting

It depends on what you want! Completely! We originally had a budget of $25K, now it's much much higher, but that's because we decided we wanted something different-not because we couldn't do it.

Really, do you want the $400 dress or the $4000 dress, a dj ($1000-2500) or a band ($3000 - 10000)? Do you want a string trio during the ceremony or will your church organist play? Are you getting married in a church that will already be decorated for a holiday, or do you need to provide decorations, and if so-how much do you want. Do you want $2 favors or $10 favors. Do you need a videographer? How many photographers do you want? $300 for invitations or $1000? Do you need a suite for the night or is that provided by your hall?

Once you find your hall you'll have a better idea. Do they provide a cake? Menus? Place cards? etc.
Also, the style of the place you chose will impact the kind of (and price of) the other things you choose. We were originally going to have a tented summer BBQ on the beach-we'll it's turned into a black tie optional affair in a mansion. That's changed what we decided to get for attire, invites, favors, etc.

So many things are up to you. If you'd like ideas on how to save, I might be able to help. I know a lot of them (even though I didn't follow some of them ). I can give you names of some vendors that are relatively inexpensive for the quality they provide.

Re: budgeting

you could always pick a cheaper hall..cutting down that cost would give you more in other areas... for 150 people you could get (for less than 100pp including tax) Manor East, Verdi's, Stewart Manor CC, Koenigs , New Hyde Park Inn, Plattsdeutche Park Inn..
