Question for Bora Bora / Tahiti / Fiji / Costa Rica Honeymooners...

What was the food like?

I'm a vegetarian and am wondering what my options would be if we chose Bora Bora, Fiji or Costa Rica for our HM. I'm thinking I might have to compromise and eat seafood...not that I ever liked fish but I don't want to ruin anything by starving!

we ate a lot of rice and beans and plantains in Costa Rica (and a good amount of seafood too). But I don't think you'd have a problem there.

Depending on where you are, there are numerous restaurants to choose from. We had italian one night and sushi another. Its only in the more obscure areas that selection dwindles but there would still be plenty for a vegetarian to eat.

You should be fine wherever you go. I've veg too. I'm just planning on letting the resort know in advance and making sure they can accomodate. You should be ok in Costa Rica, the only thing is you'd have to make sure to get your protein. Bring some protein bars in case you end up eating a lot of starches, fruits, and veggies and have a hard time getting legumes or soy.

There were plenty of vegitarian options in Tahiti/Bora Bora...lots of salads, fruit and other choices.

Thanks everyone...

On the topic of seafood...what type of seafood - was it fish or shellfish?

I can totally get into salads & fruit but I definitely need more substance. Good to hear that there was variety as far as sushi & Italian.

Re: Question for Bora Bora / Tahiti / Fiji / Costa Rica Honeymooners...

more fish than shellfish. One place we stayed (which if you go to Costa Rica, you shouldn't miss) had a number of veggie options on the menu. Its Xandari just outside San Jose.

I don't recall eating a lot of meat at all, but other than the two nights (sushi & italian) we intentionally tried to stay with Costa Rican food to get more of the flavor of the area.
