feeling blue about my afternoon wedding

Hi ladies,
I am feeling a bit down and thought i'd turn to you brilliant ladies for thoughts or support... For the sake of our budget, we decided to have a Friday afternoon wedding at Chateau Briand the 4th of July weekend. I am feeling a little blue/disappointed about this for a few reasons. First, i picture my poor guests getting stuck in LI traffic to and from the wedding (we are from LI). Second, I would love the idea of seeing my guests dance the night away, which won't happen. I'm afraid people wont party as much because the reception is from 2 - 6 pm. I also feel like, what the heck are we going to do afterwards? I know these are trivial concerns, in light of the fact that this is really about my marriage, but I can't help but feel this way every once in a while. Anyone have any thoughts? maybe you're having an afternoon wedding and can help me see the brighter side of things? agh! don't even know what it is that i'm looking for. just needed to vent... thanks for listening!

Re: feeling blue about my afternoon wedding

well look at it this way - people who want to be at your wedding will have a blast and dance and party!

Maybe you could find a hotel nearby that has a bar in it or near by that you guys could continue the party after!

WHere is your reception hall?

Just remeber it is your wedding and it will be beautiful!

Re: feeling blue about my afternoon wedding

One of my best friends got married on a Saturday afternoon. At first I thought the same as you - didn't think anyone would dance, or drink, or party, etc.

It was one of the best weddings I'd ever been to! I was literally up on my feet dancing the whole time. I wasn't even aware that it was daytime until we left! (And I was in the bp so had been awake since 4:15 a.m.!)

I wouldn't worry. People who love you guys will have fun celebrating with you no matter what time the party is.

Re: feeling blue about my afternoon wedding

my FSIL got married in the afternoon and her wedding was AMAZING!!!! we danced the whole time and it was actually so nice because it was beautiful and sunny out, and the dance floor was outside.

did anyone see the movie freaky friday...with jamie lee curtis and lindsay lohan?? that wedding looked SO wonderful!!!

i understand how you feel, but your wedding is going to be gorgeous and perfect and you won't regret a thing.

Re: feeling blue about my afternoon wedding

I was in an afternoon wedding and it did not stop anybody from dancing or drinking.

Maybe book a hotel block so people can contiunue the party or go and change and go to a club or lounge in the evening and continue the party

Re: feeling blue about my afternoon wedding

I totally hear you...we were in the same position with the afternoon wedding, and when we narrowed down our RH choices, I made sure that they all had the ability to black out the room so that we at least had the illusion of night time, which is important to me. Turns out a lot of places do it, and then you can have all the dj lights and all that stuff...maybe that's an option for you guys too!!

Don't worry about the traffic though - I don't think it'll be that bad at all - it would be worse if people had to get to your wedding in the evening

Re: feeling blue about my afternoon wedding

I am having a morning wedding- on a saturday.. and honestly I did think about these things...but im tyong to think of the positive. Here they are :)My top ten

10- more people likely to go since its not at night...
9- I was able to book my honeymoon to leave the next day..early
8-Great outside shots :)
7- Less hot for my guests outside during ceremony & coctail hour
6- Less traffic
5- better deal on reception site...lol
4- did not worry bout booking my vendors since most people have sat night weddings & less of a chance of not getting them
3- the breakfast buffett for my guests ( next day) (incentive to stay overnight)
2- AFTER Party!!! whoo hoo!!!!
and drum roll please- the number one reason for a morning wedding
1- LESS OF A CHANCE THAT MY FIANCE WILL BE HAMMERED!!!!

Re: feeling blue about my afternoon wedding

You could have an afterparty- have some of your friends meet up at a bar or restaurant and keeping partying! I went to an afternoon wedding where afterwards the bride and groom rented like a kfc and brought their own drinks. It was so much fun!

Re: feeling blue about my afternoon wedding

im also having an afternoon wedding. I was also bummed at first but then I thought it is still early so everyone will stay the whole time to dont worry about traveling. And after Im going to the bar at the place im getting married or if you dont have one there you can go to the hotel bar where your staying that night. I figure it act gives you a longer time to spend on your wedding because of the after party!!! plus you will get really good pix since its still light out!!

Re: feeling blue about my afternoon wedding

Thanks ladies. My wedding is at Chateau Briand. I'm from Weschester and don't really know LI very well. Any thoughts on a hotel I can have an afterparty in? There's a Holiday Inn right next door, but I'm not sure if there's a bar there... thoughts?

Re: feeling blue about my afternoon wedding

it's not the time of day, day of week, or anything else that makes a wedding-- people are what make it. If they want to party and have a blast, they will do so at any time
