Re: changing your last name?
I am not changing mine. I am going to add his last name onto my last name (but NO hyphen), but still go by my maiden name in my personal and professional life. I will probably make the switch in my personal life once we have children.

Re: changing your last name?
we both have ridiculously long complicated italian last names. so technically i'm changing my name but professionally for the time being i'll still use my maiden name. i think once i leave my current job i'd start using his name.

Re: changing your last name?
I'm changing my last name for a variety of reasons...#1 is because I can't imagine not doing it...#2 is that my grandmother made my grandfather change his last name to distance himself from his family...and there was no good reason for it. If I change my name, the name dies with me...so there's that too.

Re: changing your last name?
I'm changing my name to his'...which was met with gasps from both my FH, my family and my closest friends when I mentioned it.FH was pleasantly surprised - he thought I'd keep my own or use both, hyphenated.
My friends and family were surprised because I've always been the activist type when it comes to a particular woman's cause, and I've always marched to the beat of a different drummer. They really thought it was strange at first. They thought it was anti-feminist of me to 'give up' my last name. I feel that I'm ready to move on and take his name, and begin our universally-named family unit together. It wasn't even really something that I CHOSE...it was something that I KNEW.
As far as feminism goes, IMO feminism is about doing what is right for you, while also recognizing that what is right for you isn't always what is right for someone else.
This is what is right for me, and I understand and respect all women who chose to do otherwise.

I'm changing mine. Not for one particular reason but it feels right and I never had to think about it I just knew I would change it to his.

Re: changing your last name?
Def changing!I love FH's last name and when we have children, I want us to have one name as a family. I don't want to have a diff last name than my children...but that's just me.

Re: changing your last name?
I thought of not changing it for publication reasons, but decided to go with it! For future publications, I am going to hyphenate it. As silly as it sounds, I like the idea of one day being 'The [last name here] Family.'

same here...never even thought about keeping my name. I'm pretty traditional and growing up I just always thought 'this is what you do when you get married'. Now, I understand things are different and to each (her) own, but I'm excited to have the same name as FH. Plus my name is 13 letters long, so I'm happy to half that!

i'm definitely changing my last name..i didnt want to when i was younger because i'm an only child and my dad's side only has one boy to carry on his last name but i love my fh and there's really no question about it anymore that i'm taking his last name..plus i feel left out bc him and our son have the name and not me..and it's an awesome last name..hennessey

Re: changing your last name?
I'm not sure either. I have a number of professional certifications and changing my name could be complicated. I am at least going to hyphenate my name so that I technically have the same last name as my kids.

Re: changing your last name?
I am not changing my name. I think its sexist, and I wouldn't feel comfortable with a different last name.Everyone needs to do what is right for them!

Re: changing your last name?
Changing it.I already have a hyphenated last name and absolutely HATE IT! Since both last names are so long- 8 letters and 6 letters- it never fits on documents, my drivers license doesn't have my first name because my last name is so long!
I also hate explaining why I have two last names, and the reason.
I am changing from a double italian last name to a single italian last name and loving it!!!
