Would it be totally redic or too early

If I had my save the dates made and gave them out at my engagement party?

My engagement party is January 2nd, 2010 and my wedding isnt until 2012.

I mean I figure its a magnet and they can just keep it on the fridge until then lol

I dont know - it's just me - but its still 2 years away - I would hold off on sending them - I would send them up to a year in advance. But once you start going over that - you just never know what happens w/people's stuff on their fridge - esp if they have kids! JMHO.

If your wedding was only a year away I would say go for it but I wouldnt want them to get lost.

JMO? i wouldnt send them out till 1 year to 9 months before at the earliest... but 2 years? that just seems like really to early! i know your excited! i bought my STD the day i booked my RH but i have stayed tough and i will be sending them this month (6 months out)

I know! I am just super excited! FH & I have been talking about getting married for years, and now it's finally happening and I think I'm just rushing everything lol

I think I am going to order them, but hold off on sending them.

i've never seen std give 2 years early..I would wait until 2011 to give out the save the dates. But i know your excited so go for it!

The only reason I would say wait, is because believe it or not, your guest list can drastically change in ONE year, let alone two. That's just been my experience with soooo many of my married friends, and myself.

too early...

things may change (e.g. one of the LIW brides had to move up her wedding due to lost in her family to cut costs ) i dont wish that on both of you.. but things may occur 2yrs from now... u never know! my gf cancelled her wedding 2 month ago...things happen!

the earlier you tell people, the more people that will come i feel...

its you and the FH call .. but i think its too early

ITA - good call on this one Allegra. I know there were people from 2 1/2 years ago that I would have invited then, that I didnt have on my guest list this year & vice-versa. We sent ours out 8 months in advance only b/c we were having a summer wedding & we know alot of ppl start planning their summer vacations early - so we wanted to give them a good amount of time for a heads up.

I agree with this, but I am only giving it to my immediate family at the engagement party. So I mean obviously they will all be invited. But I'll order them and wait to give them out.

Waiting is a good ides...even if it is only family members...friends might see them and wonder why they did not get one

Since you are so super excited (and you should be!) maybe just send them to IMMEDIATE family with your engagement thank you's? But I would hold off for everyone else since you still have lots of time....in 2 years a lot could happen, and you might change your mind about inviting a person or 2 to your wedding!!!

I also wanted to do that my eparty is prob in may or june but wedding oct 2011 but I love the idea of sending it with the thank yous!!!
