well as far as cons go, I see you already booked some vendors so you will have to check with all of them to see if you can push the date back without any penalities and see if it would be possible to hold the price they quoted you for 2012. And an obvious con is just the fact of waiting longer for your wedding, but if both of you are willing than you should be fine.

A big pro is the ability to save more money for the wedding and even a house soon after.

we're having a 3.5 year engagement (engaged June of 08 and getting married Dec 11). After dating for so long, you just want to get married already! Its hard to wait and I admit, some of the excitement wears off, but I'm starting to realize that things happen differently for different people. Some ppl will get engaged and married right away, others will wait, but you have to think about what is better for you and FH. Don't worry about other ppl. If you wait, maybe FH will want to be more involved with the planning, you'll have more time to save and don't have to stress yourself out! HTH good luck!

I will be engaged 4 years. I got engaged 2 months before I started law school and I decided to wait until I graduated to get married. I am graduating in May- I will be taking the Bar in July. Then, I will have a full year to plan. This was my choice and I'm happy with it. It took a lot of pressure and stress off my shoulders.

So, personally, I don't think the length of an engagement should be a concern. If you can book everything without your FH, and you want to get married in March 2011-- then more power to you. If you want his help with the planning, then maybe moving your date back a little bit is the better option. I'm not sure whether you've actually booked any vendors yet?

Pushing your wedding back to 2012...
Pro- more time to plan & plannng will possibly be more enjoyable.
Con- if you booked vendors already then you have to deal with them, and obviously, you have to wait longer to get married.

Whether you are a 2011 or a 2012 bride -- your wedding day will be amazing! Try not to stress... do what is best for YOU!

Honestly, how much effort do you think FH will put towards wedding planning? I run all ideas by FH, but I do the leg work. Sometimes it bothers me, but mostly I like playing party planner so it's fun. LOL! I'd consider that before you postpone your wedding waiting for his help!

That is the same situation me and my FH are in, except I'm the one in school. We decided to go with the longer engagement so I can finish school and have time to actually enjoy the wedding planning together without always having school on my mind. Everyone is different but personally I feel if you know you want to be with this person then what's the rush.
