drumming up conversation - splitting up things around the house?

Who does what in your house? Did you have a conversation about this, or did it just fall into happening?

I cook, DH does the dishes, we both clean, he handles the bill paying (the paperwork end of it), and i do most of the food shopping. Also, I generally take care of our appointments and our 'social calendar'.

DH cooks and does the dishes, pays the bills and does most of the food shopping... I do the rest of the cleaning and the laundry.

I got a pretty sweet deal somehow.

Re: drumming up conversation - splitting up things around the house?

I don't cook, period, so DH does all the cooking and I set/clear the table and do the dishes, which I think is perfectly fair. We take turns on the bathroom (it's his turn) and as for everything else, if it's my turn to clean the bathroom, generally he will clean up the rest of the apartment and vice versa ... I also think that's pretty fair.

We do our own laundry and clean our own sides of the bedroom.

DH has like, 6 pairs of underwear, so he must do laundry every week. Since I have about 600 (that's only a slight exaggeration), I have no reason to do laundry that often. I do it when I need to, which is usually once every three weeks or so.

DH actually has two separate hampers (whites and non-whites) and I'm the one who lumps all of my clothes together! I have very few articles of white clothing though so I don't care if they get dingy or discolored, since they are mostly socks.

Re: drumming up conversation - splitting up things around the house?

We really split it up equally. We both tend to cook, me more lately. He cleans the apt more than I do. We both go food shopping together. He usually fills the dishwasher from the sink and I usually empty it. I make the bed. He does the laundry (omg, amazing!), but I fold it. When it comes to cleaning the apartment...I am more of a straighten-upper while he is more of the deep cleaner. I'll put everything where it needs to go, and then he'll vaccuum, mop the floors, clean the bathroom, etc. Ugh, I love that man...he does so much!

It’s true… sometimes I think I got screwed in this end of the deal bc DH changes his clothes like 3 times a day… so the amount of laundry he has in one week is ridiculous!

Vin is like that with his t-shirts... I think the record was 15 in 1 week.... yes, I've counted bc once you see the pile, it's unreal... As for me, I try to wear jeans twice and tees once... working with a child, things can get messy

I think this is why he likes to do his own laundry... he changes out of his t shirts 3x a day thanks to work

Re: drumming up conversation - splitting up things around the house?

I pretty much do everything. lol

I cook, do the dishes, the laundry, all the cleaning, pay the bills, handle the calendar, do all the food shopping. hmmm is that it? lol

DH does cook on occasion and he has been better about cleaning up the dishes.

But I will say that DH is extremely handy so he is constantly fixing things and he does do all the renovation in our house. So I feel that we are fair.

Re: drumming up conversation - splitting up things around the house?

Before I was laid off, we split everything. Now, I am home so I cook, clean, laundry and all that stuff. DH still wants to help though. So he helps clear dishes, takes out garbage, vaccums, cleans the floors etc.

DH does most of the cooking but i cook sometimes, dishes all the outside work....mowing the lawn ( I do every now and then but he does it more), raking the leaves, cleaning out the garage. I do laundry, most of the cleaning (DH helps alot though), pay the bills.

Re: drumming up conversation - splitting up things around the house?

I'm loving that a lot of DH's are pitching in! No slouch on my dad because this is just the way things were done, but he did the stuff on the outside of the house, and my mom did the stuff on the inside, and it always seemed like she was doing so much in addition to raising the kids, and working full time as well. Yay for gender equality! :)
