Unfortunately, people think they can "fix" other people. This is very serious and a dangerous situation. What's worst about it is usually the person has to get rid of the person on their own and will not smarten up with the advice of others. It's unfortunate and I hope that your FSIL figures this out sooner than later.

OMG Marjorie- I dont know what to say! This is horrible. It may not be that your FIL dont want to do anything- they might be afraid of him. If they try to throw him out they might be afraid that he might do something. I know if it was me I would be afraid. At least get FH out of there. Can he come and live with you? Or maybe a friend? Unfortunatly you cant help someone who doesnt want help (FSIL) but if you can help FH that would be major.
I cant imagine what you are going through right now. I just want to let you know I am here if you need to talk.

I agree. I would suggest talking to a counselor about this sooner rather than later. I know you might be thinking "why would I have to talk to one, she's the one who is in danger!" You might be a better ally for FSIL if you have stronger support with you.

They are letting a convicted RAPIST that they don't even know sleep in their home????? Forgive me for being rude, but I think the whole family needs some kind of therapy. Not only is that extremely dangerous, its just plain stupid.
I would not step foot in that house until this guy is out of the picture. Even then, he knows WAY too much about the family and their routine already. He could come back at any time, even after they break up.
Is there anywhere FH can go to live for the time being?? You and he seem to be th only ones that are aware of this exrememly dangerous situation.

how come FH and your FILs are disagreeing with you on this? is it just that they are afraid to confront your FSIL? are they afraid there might be repercussions if they try to kick this guy out? is he violating his parole in some way? are there kids in the house?

oh my gosh! I am so sorry that you are dealing with this. Can your FH stay with you awhile? That way at least you know that he is safe?
IMHO, I'd keep a really close eye on the situation, and if anything unusual happens, I'd call the police ASAP.
