I feel so sneaky! (w/ Update at the bottom)

Due to DH's car dying TWICE last year and him losing his job THREE times we had a lot of money issues last year. It got so bad that we were paying the minimums on all our bills only because my mom was giving us a few hundred every month just to survive. Our wedding presents to each other got put on hold (which we were both pretty disappointed about because mine was my something blue (see the jewelry album I have) and DH's was his first nice watch).

My earrings we had specially made, they're basically Tiffany knock-offs and cost us about 1/3 of the price! (They look just like the real thing btw) so we paid them off in layaway first. And DH's Tag Heuer watch has been sitting there forever (he didn't want to pay for it until we could pay in cash and not have to pay tax).

We went into the store the other day to pick up a repair and he looked at the watch case (which is practically a tradition at this point) and was upset because his watch was gone. Well that's because I've been paying it off on layaway to give to him with all his other Christmas stuff.

I'm never able to keep secrets (or buy a present and not give it to him right away), so I'm really excited and proud of myself for this!

im the same way i get soo excited about the gift i just want him to know right away! so i usually give it away or give it early!

I've learned to wait until the last minute to buy it, this way I only have to wait a day. Otherwise there are times when I literally give it to him the day I buy it. I'm so bad. What am I gonna do when we have kids and have to wait until Christmas to give them stuff?

That's so sweet of you! It would be hard for me to keep a secret like that BUT you have done a good job THUS far. Let us know the outcome when you do give him the gift.

I'm bumping this to let you know what happened!

So yesterday I went to pick up the watch and expertly snuck it into the apartment and hid it. Then like two hours later DH goes, 'So, when are we going to open presents? I have one I really really want to give you and I can't wait.' To which I tell him it's up to him because I always ruin the surprise too, so if he wants to do it that's fine. And he goes, 'Well only if we exchange a present so its fair.' So I gave him the watch and his face lit up like the Christmas tree. He freaked out and was so happy he couldn't believe it.

We've been trying to save money lately and have been thinking about buying a house if I get into grad school in a few places so he at one point had said he didn't need to get it, so he was extra surprised and excited. I was so proud of myself for keeping the secret, and I didn't even ruin it this time! Haha.

ETA. He's going to the jeweler at 9:30 this morning (when they first open) so that he can have one of the links taken out so it fits. He is so freaking excited it is ridiculous.
