it's really bc awareness month for me

Hi newlyweds and brides. I thought long and hard about putting this out there, but this week I was operated on for invasive breast cancer.
Yes I am an older newlywed, but I just wanted to say, in the whirlwind of wedding plans don't forget to be proactive about your health. For us older gals there are screening tests like mammos and MRI's and there are some new things in the works for the younger gals as well as self exam.
The earlier stage a cancer is, the easier the treatment. I skipped my tests during all the wedding plans, and that may have allowed my cancer to spread a little bit.
For those few who know me on facebook, I have not gone 100 percent public with this, so please don't carry this thread there, but I am happy to answer any questions you have here or on email.
It's funny I spend a lot of time on BreastCancer.org, it reminds me of here in a strange way.
Anyhow, I got a lot of help from LI weddings, and I wanted to give a little something back.
Screening tests are scary, but you will be glad you did it!
I'll try to check in from time to time, sometimes it's really nice just to think about veils!

My mom is a survivor! In remission for 9 years thankfully...

In lieu of favors for the wedding, we did a big donation to The Maurer Foundation (maurerfoundation.org), which focuses on education and prevention of breast cancer. Dr Virginia Maurer saved my moms life, we thought we could certainly give back to her foundation. It was the perfect charity to donate to.

And..........a portion of the proceeds from the sale of my wedding dress went to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation...

Notice an underlying theme at the wedding?

Thank you for reminding us all of such an important health issue.

thanks everyone! Popped that is so nice. I am doing well, recovery takes patience, but I can do a bit more each day.
