Tahiti vs Hawaii?

We are going back and forth on which to choose . . . Originally we were going to do a Regent cruise in Tahiti and spend some days on land but it turns out the cruise leaves the day before our wedding and doesn't sail again until June 5th.

Now we're between the Four Seasons Bora Bora (and maybe some other place?) and the Four Seasons Maui (along with somewhere else in Hawaii). We're also trying to see if there's another cruise line in Tahiti that's up to par with Regent. I'm worried that spending close to 2 weeks in Tahiti will get pretty boring as I keep hearing there isn't much to actually do there. It at least looks like there are more activities in Hawaii . . . But then I wonder if Bora Bora is so much better than Hawaii that it's worth being a little bored?

It looks like some of you have a lot of experience with these places so any insight would be greatly appreciated!
TIA!

Re: Tahiti vs Hawaii?

Judging from the things I've heard.. I honestly wouldn't spend 2 weeks in Tahiti. I'd def stay on Bora Bora and Moorea instead. There are SO many islands over there that you could go to. Bora Bora is the number one island though.

Personally for a once in a lifetime chance I'd go all the way with it and go to Bora Bora. That's why I am!!

Sometimes when I tell people where I'm going for my HM they have no clue where it is! While other people flip out over it.

I've never been to Hawaii and I'm sure it's great too. But something about the untouched natural beauty of bora bora and the clear water just draws people in. It's always like the number one spot of the travel channel places to go. It's not commercialized. There's no McDonalds on the Island... and those are things you would find in hawaii... so it's all personal preference. I think you can find great deals either way and really I'm sure you can't go wrong with either one of them. both have black, pink, and white sand beaches.

For me Hawaii is a vacation that I could go on later in life. Bora Bora is just soo much more of that 'once in a lifetime' thing.

I can't wait to go on my HM!! One more month!!!

Re: Tahiti vs Hawaii?

I really wanted to do one week in Bora Bora and two weeks in Hawaii for our HM. However, we got a great deal for 3 full weeks in Hawaii and since we knew we were buying a house in addition to the wedding/HM we went with the cheaper option.

I absolutely LOVE Hawaii (been there twice before) but if I could have convinced FH to spend the extra $$, we would be going to Bora Bora for the HM!

Re: Tahiti vs Hawaii?

Cruising on the Paul Gaugin is a once in a lifetime experience. I personally would wait the month. You can do some pre-cruise nights so the wait isn't that long.

Re: Tahiti vs Hawaii?

Thanks for your input! We are so split down the middle right now it's ridiculous. One minute I'm sure I want Bora Bora then the next I'm set on Hawaii. Ugh, I just want to pick one already and book it! I guess there are worse decisions in life though lol!

Haha!! There are DEF worse decisions in life!!

For us the Bora Bora trip is more once in a lifetime. I see Hawaii as being awesome and amazing... but not the 'once in a lifetime' part. I doubt we will ever make it back to Bora Bora again... one can ONLY DREAM though!! haha!!
Hawaii isn't a bad option either.

Re: Tahiti vs Hawaii?

Ok, we decided, we're going to Bora Bora! So excited! Now we just have to figure out the details. I don't think we'll stay at the Four Seasons the whole time, I want to switch it up a little. Glad to have made a decision though!

I could NOT agree more.
You can go to Hawaii anytime. Bora Bora is definitely once in a lifetime...ENJOY!

Go see the movie Couples Retreat...it was filmed at St. Regis Bora Bora...all the scenic shots made me crazy I want to go back so badly now after seeing that movie. Too bad I just priced it out for DH's 40th bday next year and it's way more than we spent in 2007 and we spent a fortune then. I can't half *** it there...if we go back I'd have to stay where we stayed which was IC Thalasso. Way too much $. Definitely once in a lifetime enjoy it ladies!

I'm going to bump a really old post from when I was planning mine...it's long like 50-pages long but it is full of great info and tips from people who have been...and lots of great photos too.

Enjoy!

Re: Tahiti vs Hawaii?

Thanks everyone! We're actually getting really good price quotes for Bora Bora which is nice. I don't know if it's because we're not jumping on any of their offers but the prices keep coming down lol! Just saw Couples Retreat and now I feel like I NEED a jacuzzi on my deck! Can't wait for my honeymoon!

Oh, and because I'm SO worried about being bored there we're doing a few days in Vegas on the way home! At least if I find Bora Bora a little TOO relaxing I'll have Vegas to look forward to.

Re: Tahiti vs Hawaii?

I was wondering if anyone has looked into doing a honeymoon that incorporated both Tahiti and Hawaii? My FH and I are looking for the activity in Hawaii but were wondering if we could end with a few days in Tahiti or Bora Bora? Any info would be great. Thanks.

Re: Tahiti vs Hawaii?

I originally looked into doing a week in Tahiti and 2 weeks in Hawaii. One week in the hotel we wanted in Tahiti was going to cost us about the same as 3 weeks in Hawaii (it was a little bit less).

However, Tahiti is only about 4 hours by plane from Hawaii so it's extremely do-able if you want to spend the $$.
