Wedding Dress Prices

How much did you spend on a wedding dress? I haven't started dress shopping yet, but I will this summer. I'm really not sure what an average dress goes for these days. Plus, do they ask when you go dress shopping what your limit is?

Re: Wedding Dress Prices

You can spend $500 on a dress or you can spend $5000+ on a dress. It really varies. I would definitely have a limit set in mind. Don't forget you will also need undergarments, a slip, shoes, headpiece and veil. You need to budget that all in. Also I found that when I told them what I wanted to spend they tended to show me dresses just above that amount, so you might want to tell them slightly less than your budget. I think it is a good idea to tell them what your budget it, otherwise you might fall in love with a dress that you completely cannot afford. Hope that helps!

Re: Wedding Dress Prices

I spent $600 on my dress. They didn't ask me how much I wanted to spend, but I went into the store with a picture of a dress that I wanted. Of course, they show you a bunch of other stuff too. They didn't even have the dress I wanted, so they had to order it for me.

Re: Wedding Dress Prices

I spent $3200 plus $400 for alterations (Kleinfeld charges a flat fee for alterations, I'm not sure how they figure it out for each dress or if it's the same for everyone). The dress was a major priority for me though, so we skimped on calligraphy and we're not having a videographer.....
It turned my stomach to spend it but it was 'the dress'.....

Re: Wedding Dress Prices

I spent $505 before alterations! I'd budgeted $1k for my dress & was willing to go higher if necessary, luckily 'the one' didn't break the bank & my dress ended up being the wedding item I saved $$ on, oddly enough

Re: Wedding Dress Prices

I don't recall anybody asking me what my budget was. I just told them what I was looking for or brought in pictures from magazines. Some of the sales associates were way off on the style of dress that would look best on me or that I was interested in. My sister and mom found one that they thought would be 'my taste' (aka sparkly/gawdy) and it was the one.

The cost came to a little over $4000 with the customizations that I needed done.

Re: Wedding Dress Prices

My dress is 1800. I dont know what the price of alterations are (I am going on Saturday to possibly leave a deposit) and I am adding length to the train. I want a longer train. I forgot what is included (If I spend over 1000 on my dress I get some accessories included. I just dont remember what)

I dont know what my mom is going to wind up spending total on all my bridal needs (she is buying me my gown and all my bridal accessories and needs)

Re: Wedding Dress Prices

My dress was $ 750. With my slip, bra, and veil it came to a little over $ 1,000. This does not include my alterations which were capped at $ 125.00. When I went shopping I told them what price range I was looking for and they didn't bring me anything that was high. Have fun when you go!

Re: Wedding Dress Prices

Dress and slip combine was just over $600. My tailor will take care of the alterations, but I don't need much done other than a hem, and the bustle.

If you are concerned about price, David's Bridal (where I got mine) has some lovely dresses that aren't too expensive. I'd suggest the one in Queens though. The one in Carle Place has made girls on here crazy, me nearly included.

Edited to say: Veil was an additional $65 from Patchogue Floral.

Re: Wedding Dress Prices

My dress came to $700, which includes tax. A lot of dresses I looked at were between $500 and $750. One place I went to, where, incidentally I bought my dress, did ask for my budget and never pressured me to go beyond that. In fact, I decided that I would go beyond my budget and they asked me whether that was OK with me and my FI.

You can pay anywhere from $500 - $5000. It depends on what you want and how much you are willing to spend. However, when you budget for your dress, don't forget about the other things, like veil, slip, shoes, stocking, bra, bustle, and alterations. These things do add up. Good luck!

Mine was 1500 plus an 150 alteration cap, 95 for my cathedral veil, and they threw in my fingertip veil for free.

Re: Wedding Dress Prices

I agree with Helene718. It all depends on your taste, style, preference on Bridal designer, etc. IMHO, I think everyone should have a set budget limit. Bear in mind there's also alterations which is an added expense.

Personally, my own budget limit was under $1,000.00 including sales tax which I did meet my limit, style, and taste. I didn't really have any designer label preference in mind but wanted a lot of beading, sparkle on my gown. I'd went dress shopping one year exactly before our wedding date which took 4 months for it to arrived after the order was placed. It was a Mori Lee gown. IMHO, I'd rather spend more money on wedding photography and our home rather than a gown that is worn for one day.

How much to spend for a gown?? It's really up to you.

Re: Wedding Dress Prices

Mine was $12,000 with all the changes I made in the design of the dress (just a few to the neckline, and we added a few yards for the train, and we added Swarovski crystal to some of the embroidery).

Now it's time to look for a veil and tiara.
