I know this topic has been posted a lot, but I am seriously freaking out about the cost of flowers..HELP!

I just saw a florist today, and they want $350 per centerpiece...a tall one. If I want short centerpiece close to the table (which is not what I want) it's $250.

Regardless, I think these prices are outrageous.

I am I crazy?

What is everyone else paying if you don't mind posting?

That's crazy!! What florist is this?? What sort of flowers are you requesting?

The high ones at Flowers by Michele were around 100 I think- depending on the type of flower you were looking at.

$350 PER centerpiece? Are they made of gold? That is an outrageous price. I am not having flower centerpieces, but many people o this board are and the average price seems to be about $75.
Who quoted that price?

I'm using Burton's and my total cost is $1145. Including 14 tables, my bouquet, 8 BM bouquets, 4 corsages, all the bouts. and throw away bouquet.

Hydrangas (sp?), roses, orchids...there were all sorts of flowers in the centerpiece...but it wasn't the flowers that were expensive, all the centerpieces start out very high.

I'm freaking out....but I feel better that you agree it's crazy money....I thought to myself that I REALLY underestimated the cost of flowers!!!

I have to check out a few others.

Orchids are very expensive flowers - more expensive than roses...i know because I had orchid centerpieces for my e-party...maybe that is why they quoted you such a high price.

I cant believe that price you received on centerpieces!!! Gosh, flowers die and its not like you keep the centerpiece fixtures...I hope that is not the norm as far as price goes.

That is where I thought I could save money and I hope I can still do that.

I noticed you're getting married in Dec....Can they definitely get you hydrangeas during that month? Where are they getting them from (what country)?Is that increasing the cost for you?

My centerpieces are low w/hydrangea & roses and I was quoted $130.

What florist are you going with? Sugar Magnolias?

i think our centerpieces are about $80 each.

could it be that your flowers are out of season?? orchids are expense year-round, but i think during the winter they are probably more so.

I am using Sugar Magnolias for my June wedding and our prices were definately not that high. We are paying about $120 for two low centerpeices on each table with all the flowers you said minus the orchids. I would speak to Heidi again and see why the price was so high. Seems maybe there was some miscommunication. Good luck!!!

She's sending me an estimate, and she said we can change everything if I want. The centerpieces are very very full, and that's why they're expensive. But she told me that her high centerpieces START around $250, without the extra fullness I requested.

I am confused! I loved all the other wedding planning stuff, but I'm having such a hard time with the "flowers" part because I feel it is such a waste of money. I have no problem spending on a band, food, or dress...but I just have this mental block for spending on flowers.

I won't feel so bad about a $120 centerpiece, but I just won't do $350...

Kathy a centerpiece is what you make of it. dont let these florists brainwash you into anything.
Business LOVE when we are shopping with our emotions, "..of course its your WEDDING DAY, you want THE BEST"..."its your babys christening...ONLY THE BEST" etc etc...

I had gorgeous centerpieces. (in my opinion )
hand painted candle holders (the kind where the big pillar candle goes insde the glass) they were handpainted with flowers, butterflies, gorgeous.
well between them and the candles. I spent no more than $20 per centerpiece. I'll try to post a picture if youre interested.

Follow your own creativity, not the creativity of the florists out to get you !

One tip though...discuss what the centerpeices are put into. On our first estimate she was giving us real silver bowls and that increased our price over $80 each piece. I told her that the plastic ones were fine and looked exactly the same and that brought down the cost dramatically. Heidi does great work and there is no one else I would want doing my flowers. A little more expensive than some but the end product is worth every penny IMO : ).

That price is crazy. How many people are you having at your wedding? For argument sake let's say 200, that's 10 people at a table, which totals up to $5,600!! That doesn't include the cost of your other flowers!!! You can pay off your video and DJ with the cost of your centerpieces.

Shop around and get 3 more estimates I guarantee you will get a cheaper price. Good luck.

Your quote definitley sounds very high... If you are on a budget you should check out Burton's in Melville. They are extremely reasonable and they do a Great job!

I am also using Sugar Magnolias. I also think Heidi is great. I would talk to her to find out if there is a reason why they are sooooo expensive.

I am not having floral centerpieces and got a very good price because she is a good friend of my SIL so I really can't give you a comparison. Sorry.

The reason they are so expensive is you are getting married in Dec. and the only inexpensive flower you can get is roses. I went thru the same thing getting married in Jan. You either will have a big bill or you need to rethink your flowers Sorry good luck
