annoying guest wants me to hire a babysitter! help!!

ahhhhhh!!!

so.. at first we wanted a no kid wedding!! then, my fh's dad insisted on bringing his 5 year old grandson from florida, and fh was so excited that i decided to invite him as well as a few other kids from my side of the family to make it fair. i have a really annoying cousin that has a 5 year old and an 8 month old. before i even told her that i was inviting the 5 year old, i get an email asking if i was inviting him because 'he loves getting dressed up and would loves weddings'. so i reply that yes he is invited, but we are not having children under 5 years old.

now i get another email asking what she should do with her baby, if we are providing a babysitter because it would be rather expensive for her to hire one. i'm fuming.

my dad kept saying no kids specifically because of this cousin, and knew there was going to be a problem. i don't even want to tell him, i want to reply to her in the best way possible.

what would you say in response? thanks

Re: annoying guest wants me to hire a babysitter! help!!

Oh wow! I'm sorry to hear your going through this. I would just be honest with her and say listen we're not planning on providing a babysitter. Due to us not having money in our budget to provide one for our guests. She should understand that you have enough to pay for, that you can't pay for someone to watch someone elses kids for them so they can have fun..

good Luck!

Re: annoying guest wants me to hire a babysitter! help!!

Absolutely not!! It is her own responsibility to find someone to care for her child for the evening. I understand babysitters can be expensive but come on!!! I am sure she has a friend or someone to watch the baby for a night.. Honestly, I would be furious if someone asked me that!

Re: annoying guest wants me to hire a babysitter! help!!

Tell her to umm go fuc.....well, nevermind.

No honestly, you can tell her NO in a nice way. For example:

Well I understand that a babysitter is expensive, I'm sure you can understand that a wedding is expensive too and although I would love to provide a babysitter, unfortunately that is not within my budget.

I hope you, as well as anyone else with small children, do not take great offense to our wishes for our wedding, as it is nothing personal against you or your children!!

We hope you understand and can still make it!!!

Kill 'em with kindness girl!

This is a great, respectful, mature, adult, response although I would probably wind up going the first route with my response

I like this but I would HAVE TO add:
...I would love to provide a babysitter, unfortunately that is not within my budget NOR OUR RESPONSIBILITY...

I would just have to put a zinger in.

Re: annoying guest wants me to hire a babysitter! help!!

How freaking cheap is that woman. Tell her no, you are not hiring a babysitter and she would have to make her own arrangements. I understand that gets expensive but if you can't afford it, don't go to the wedding. (don't say the second part!) She chose to have kids... you didn't force her to make babies so why should you hire someone to watch her babies. Ugh. People disgust me with their rudeness sometimes.

Re: annoying guest wants me to hire a babysitter! help!!

thank you, i have to write a nice response respectfully. they are the kind of parents that bring so much attention to themselves and their kids, they totally made a mockery of my sisters sweet 16, changing diapers and disciplining their son in the middle of the dance floor screaming. i'm getting really nervous now about how they will act at the wedding, if even before the wedding they are causing problems.

thank you everyone though, i am gonna wait it out and respond tomorrow, that way i can sleep on it and calm my nerves!

Re: annoying guest wants me to hire a babysitter! help!!

I am a mother of 4 kids (ages 8,9,11 & 13 yrs old) and she does have nerve telling you to hire a babysitter for your wedding for her child ! If she thinks it is too expensive to get one for the day, then it is her problem. When me & FH go out ( which is not that often) I get my neighbors daughter to babysit the kids... and we give her more than enough... to watch 4 kids is alot ... but for her one child.... leave it up to her to take care of that !!!!!!!! You have NOTHING to do with it !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Warn the Maitre'd at your rh about them and they can quietly take care of any scenes.

Re: annoying guest wants me to hire a babysitter! help!!

I would say no, we are not having a babysitter. If you would like to bring your brat(s), you'll have to keep track of them all night. But no seriously, just tell her no. If you're firm in your tone, then she'll take the hint.
