IMPT. BIRTH CONTROL QUESTION, help please!

hi ladies, so I really need help I got the run around from like 4 people today!

My first appt. to the gyno ever was before the wedding and I also went on birth control, she gave me a 6 month supply. She said once that runs out I can go to my REGULAR doctor and she will prescribe another 6 months. She said there is no need to see her until 1 year. So im done with all my pills this week.

I called my regular doc and she refuses to give me the refill, she sayd she has nothing to do with it and I need to have a full checkup with the gyno to get a refill!?

THEN I called my gyno and she is on vacation but her medical assistant said YES I do need to have an appt. w/the gyno!! and she said she doesnt understand why my gyno would tell me that I should just go to my regular doc. WOW im so confused lol, its like everyone is on a different page!

LADIES, what do I do? do you all need to go to gyno for a checkup everytime you need a refill?

ETA: Im done with my pills and im going on a cruise on sunday, I need the pills ASAP!!!

Yup...that's what I always did. Not a full one, but definitely had to go in there...

Did you explain that to the receptionist / whoever you talked to? I know in the past if I had an urgent need for them they would call in a one month refill to my pharmacy, but I would have to make an appt at that time...you can always try that...

yes, your gyn is the one who gives you a refill. everyone is different; some do six months - mine does a year. I've never really heard of a regular doc prescribing BC

i used to just call my gyn's office and say i needed a new prescription, that's it. they would call it in for me to the pharmacy. all done.

my gyno gives me/used to give me ( im off the pill now) a prescription for 1 years worth of pills, well actually 13 months then i had to go in for appt in order to get more

I go every 6 months. But sometimes I run out before I can get in there. When I call to make the appt I tell them I just need a months supply to last me until the appt.
Maybe they can do that?

I don't know why your Gyno would tell you to go to the regular doctor.

Call you Gyno office back and explain to them what happened. THey should be able to call in a one month supply to the Pharmacy as long as you make your appointment to go back this month.

Also, check your insurance coverage. My old cover did a 6 month supply at a time so I had to go back for a check-up every 6 months but only got a PAP once a year.

My new insurance does a full year supply!

you get the pills from your gyno usually at an appt, but they should be able to call you in a refill,,,did u explain u were going away?

i just stopped the pill...but yes...only the gyno could refill my meds.

however i didnt have to go there every single time. they should be able to call your pharmacy and fax in a refill for you (as long as everything is ok). if your dr is out...tell the receptionist (or whoever answers) that u need the refill and perhaps she can help you.

HAHA Sure. theyre up in my cabinet just rotting away. My doc gave them to me incase I wanted to go back on them at some point. but Ive been feeling so good off of them.

would your gyno call the pharmacy up to refill it or would you have to go pick up a new script at their office? my gyno said I have to come in everytime I need a re-fill, they can't call it in. And I went right before the wedding and saw the PA not the doctor and she only wrote a prescription for 3 months worth. Usually the doctor writes for 6-9 months worth. I am so pissed because I don't have insurance right now since I just got married and my work said I cant get it since it will take 3 months to b eligible and then in June I am leaving my job since I will be student teaching. So now I have to go probably pay 100's of $ out of pocket just to go get a freaking refill on my scripts and then pay $60 for my yaz. ugh

My guy just calls up my pharmacy. Man that stinks! I remember when i didnt have insurance, it was such a pain. I think I paid like 90 every time. My doc also hands me like 4 free ones when I leave the office. He used to feel so bad for me when I didnt have insurance. I love my doc.

Mine can only call in one month - anything over I have to pick up a new prescription but that was my insurance not because of my doctor.

Usually they make you go back in to the gyno before they give you the next 6 month prescription. They normally do this to people who are new to the pill. You do not need to have an exam but they usually just go over things and see if you are ok, take your blood pressure, etc.

Maybe they will call you in 1 more month due to the mix up or you can beg your pharmacist for 1 more month

UPDATE: wow you ladies are quick!! THANK YOU for the responses.....according to you ladies I need to go to the gyno for the refill not my regular doc (just like the medical assistant said) I called and they said the next appt. is in like a month!! but I told her im leaving the country on sunday and she squezzed me in for tomorrow morning!! They said that its not a full checkup but they need to take my blood pressure, etc. Thank God Im getting my pills tomorrow because my hubby was freaking out and said he wasnt going next to me on the cruise next week unless I got my pills!!! LOL HAHAH

My old doc made me go every 6 months even though I had been on it for YEARS. My new doc said that insurance used to require an appt every 6 months, but not anymore. So she only makes me come every 12 months.
