Applying for student loans?

Does anyone know what I should do to start this process? I already applied for Fafsa. But I think it was too late for this semester. Hopefully I can get this straightened out for summer or fall classes

Re: Applying for student loans?

i work in higher ed so i have a little bit of knowledge about this (i don't work in financial aid though so i'm by no means an expert). i believe after you do the fafsa, you will get a SAR (student aid report) telling you what aid you qualify for. then, you decide which aid you'd like (loans, grants, etc) and fill out the appropriate paperwork with your financial aid office (such as promissary letters, etc) it may not be too late for this semester since you still have a couple more weeks (i'm assuming) and mostly everything is done electronically now.

i hope this helps!!!!

Re: Applying for student loans?

You are probably not too late with your school. I know I've gotten my financial aid squared away the week that classes started. You can call the financial aid office at your school if you're not sure what comes next and then can help. Good luck.

Re: Applying for student loans?

I work in Financial Aid and can help. As long as you file fafsa and there are no problems with it you can be awarded your financial aid and your student loans for the spring semester. Also, if you attended this past fall semester (at least part time) and were eligible for financial aid - you can also get that (you just need to be registered for the spring semester in order to get your fall semester loan eligibility). Hope I didn't confuse you.

Re: Applying for student loans?

You have to apply for FAFSA and then bring your SAR to the financial aid office. You may be able to get away with doing it without your SAR, only if the office can access your information. Once that is all done, they determine how much aid you are eligible for and then go about processing your loan for the least amount of money they can possibly give. As an Undergrad, I was always granted full-semester loans, so you shouldn't have a problem with it.
