NWR- Spinning Classes- Who has taken them?

I am thinking of starting a new routine of going to Spinning classes at my gym

Can you ladies fill me in on what this is like? Is it very intense? I have never been to a spin class before.

Is it a good class to go to 2-3 times a week? And, does it take the place of the treadmill? Thanks ladies!

They are intense...but it depends on the instructor. I usually do a 30 minute class....because with this particular instructor I walk out of there dripping. It is definitely awesome if you are trying to lose weight.

Re: NWR- Spinning Classes- Who has taken them?

I started a thread about this a few weeks ago. I was too intimidated to actually go to one. Sorry I'm no help. If you do end up going let me know if it's really as bad as everyone has made it out to be.

Re: NWR- Spinning Classes- Who has taken them?

Spinning is wonderful. I have actually been a certified instructor since college. It is a very intense workout but you can make it as intense or laid back as you want by adjusting the resistance as well as your pedal stroke speed. No matter what the instructor says to do you can go at your own pace and work at your own ability level. It definitely is a cardio workout so it is a great thing to do if you are bored with the treadmill. I highly recommend it. I do suggest getting a padded gel seat for the bike as most of the discomfort is from the seat and not the class! Remember listen to your body and have fun!!

Re: NWR- Spinning Classes- Who has taken them?

DH & I went religiously before the wedding. Not now so much, but we will start going again soon. Im just so lazy.

It is hardddddddd at first but you def. get used to it. Its a great workout!!!!!!! Better than if I were to just run on the treadmill. We took an hour class 2x/week (would have gone more but schedule conflicts).

We also went and bought the padded seat cushion and the bike shorts with padding. My asss was still sore

Make sure you bring plenty of water and a small towel to wipe your face.

Good luck if you decide to go!

Re: NWR- Spinning Classes- Who has taken them?

I love spin. I havent gone since last year because no one actually wants to do it with me and I hate going to classes alone. The instructor at my gym makes it fun with the music and sings along to it. Its such a good workout. DH actually just joined the gym and agreed to go with me, lets see if he can handle it.

I would say ease into it. Start out with the intensity low and work your way up

Re: NWR- Spinning Classes- Who has taken them?

I'm a personal trainer and I send all my clients into spin class, and I take them myself, because i think it's the easiest way to burn a ton of calories. Easy meaning a good instructor will push you to work harder than you would doing cardio on your own.
The best thing is that you are in control. You decide your speed, resistance, you don't always have to stand when the instructor says to. It's usually a dark room and everyone is so involved in what they are doing that they are not looking at you.
Yes, you're butt will hurt more than anything, but that goes away after 3 - 5 classes.
Definitely try it, the worst thing that happens is you hate it and walk out. It's much easier on your body than the treadmill, and most people end up burning more calories.
Sorry this is so long - fitness is my thing.

Re: NWR- Spinning Classes- Who has taken them?

Phew! Its a workout! Take it slow at first. After a week you will feel the difference! The classes gave me more energy, and muscle tone. The music is fun and they turn down the lights. I would try it! Its a huge work out!
