Re: Bora Bora Thread

FH was researching Tahiti trip last night and realized that even though you are allowed regular luggage allowance from US to Tahiti, on your inter-island flights, you are allowed only half that amount due to the fact that the plane is smaller. Oh yeah, and you are only allowed one bag and one carry on. (44lbs and 10lbs)

We generally tend to overpack, is anyone else concerned with this?

Re: Bora Bora Thread

Kerri, can you let me know what you find out? We did not book yet, probably will next month. We only found this out because FH is anul and thoroughly researches everything to death!! He actually was getting conflicting info from different Tahiti boards and then went on the Air Tahiti Nui website.

FH is going to email me the link from the airline that he saw. I will FM it to you.

THANK YOU for that information!! I will most definately post the answer as soon as I get one from my TA!!!

I'm very worried about that weight limit!! My suit cases are all always over the weight limit!!

I'm going to have to unpack FH's stuff to sneak my things in his bag!!! HAHAHAHA!! He will have a bunch of sundresses to wear instead!!!!

I'm going to be away for 18 days... so this is going to be TREMENDOUSLY hard for me!!!!!

However I wouldn't let this be a deciding factor in going or not going!! I'll just go and be naked half the time!!! hahahahaha!! What else can you do if can't pack enough of your things!!!!! Ohh... maybe we can wear like layers of clothes... just put all your clothes on you if you are over your weight limit!!! Like Joey did in Friends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

On a side note... I went to look at luggage yesterday.... and of course the ONLY set I fall in love with is Diane Von Furstenburg... and it's a gray suede set... and very ... so i didn't register for luggage yet! I'm not sure what the norm price for luggage is.

Re: Bora Bora Thread

That is so funny you said that because FH said he is going to layer on all his clothes to wear on the plane! He is looking into how much the charge would be for extra baggage. Unfortunatley it also said it all depends if they even have the extra room.
We are only going for 12 days, so you have that one extra week on us, so it will be even harder than for us.
I keep thinking that we will be in bathing suits and shorts most of the time, but you still need nice clothes to go out to dinner and stuff, so I am concerned too...this totally stinks!!

Re: Bora Bora Thread

OK so I JUST got my response from my wonderful TA!!! And even before responding to her... I copied it to paste it here for you guys!!

Yes, you are allowed a maximum of 3 checked bags + 1 carry on bag. However, the total weight of your checked bags should not exceed 44lbs. Normally if it is a few pounds over the limit they will not charge you an overage baggage fee. However, if you are over by a lot – say 10+ lbs over, then they can charge you a fee of approx $5 lb over the limit. You also have the option of upgrading your baggage to the “z” airfare which allows you 110lbs total per person for checked baggage. The upgrade cost would be $150 per person. You could choose to just upgrade your ticket if you think you need the additional luggage.

UH.. I think we are going to do ONE upgrade... and FH gets to carry it!!! I figure one of us can pull off the 44lb weight limit and then whatever is over that we can all throw into the one HUGE suitcase with the 110lb limit for that person. That should be OK I think!! WHEW SOOO GLAD I HAVE AN ANSWER ON THIS NOW!!!

Good news!!! Thanks for finding out! $150 upgrade is peanuts compared to what this trip is costing!!

Re: Bora Bora Thread

Hi girls. Kerri, I have been speaking to Chloe and she IS great! FH and I are thinking now of staying the whole time on Bora Bora. The question is, should we stay at one resort and try different rooms? Or should we stay at two different resorts with different room types?

Re: Bora Bora Thread

Isn't she terrific??? I love her!! I ask so many stupid questions and she always has the answers for me!!!

Personally the Moorea stop made the trip a little less expensive for us. We couldn't possibly afford staying in Bora Bora in an overwater bungalow the whole time we are away!! We will be gone for a long time too. So if I were to stay in Bora Bora the whole time I would either split up the rooms in the same resort or stay in 2 diff resorts. It stay half at one resort in one type of room (like a garden private pool) then go to a better hotel and stay in the overwater bungalow. Or you could stay in 2 diff types of rooms in the same hotel. My idea would be to cut costs because this trip is very expensive. I don't know what your ultimate goal is with the HM... again for me it was to get my a$$ there... which really means... make it Kerri and John affordable!!!! My friend stayed in 2 different rooms on her HM and they were pretty much right next to eachother... but one was kinda like a tree house.. so they stayed there the last 2 nights. So it's not unheard of to switch rooms like that.

If money is no object for you then I would LIVE IT UP!! stay at a great hotel in an overwater bungalow the whole time. And if you decide you change your mind... ask them if they will switch your room for you. But I can't imagine not being satsified with staying in the overwater bungalow!!

Re: Bora Bora Thread

Definitely saving money is the main goal. When I contacted Chloe, I said basically that she did a great job for you and I was looking for something similar. BUT, because I'm in June it would be like $2000 more, yikes! So, we're going to go for about 9 days or so. The inter-island transfer is actually more $$$ at that time. So, I said, heck lets just stay on Bora Bora. Now, it is a matter of deciding btw. hotels. So many decisions. LOL.

Re: Bora Bora Thread

My FI and I plan to book our honeymoon within the next week. We have a TA who's been somewhat helpful because she was just there. However, I wanted to see if anyone had any feedback on these hotels:

Moorea
- TA said to stay at the Intercontinental
however, I've read great things about Sofitel and Hilton

Bora Bora
- We're deciding between the IC Thalasso and the Four Seasons

All of these are a little price/deal permitting, but we definitely want the best place we can for the amount we want to spend.

TIA for your help!

From what I've seen of these hotels (I haven't gone there yet.... November!!!) they are on the higher end... and VERY VERY VERY Nice!! IF you can afford them... then go for it!!!!! The Intercontinental seems VERY NICE as does the Thalasso and Four Seasons. You really can't go wrong with any of the hotels you have on that list.

Personally those particular ones were out of my price range. I couldn't justify spending that much money.... it's already a VERY VERY expensive trip!! And my goal was to be there longer... so we decided to spend more money on multiple nights by spending less money on each night. If that makes sense.

Re: Bora Bora Thread

ok so Bora Bora is looking better and better to me, im actually gettinf really excited as I research, I originally wanted something with more of a nightlife so we were leaning towards hawaii but then fh started getting doubts, and now im kinda obsessed with bora bora lolollll

so this is kind of a dumb question and im pretty sure the answer is no but do the overwater huts have air conditioning (dont laugh lol)

eta: i thought they wouldnt cuz i thought there was no electricity in them but then i saw they had tvs and stuff so thought id ask

HI!
We had a/c in our overwater bungalows and the others we saw (other honeymooners we met) also had it. Maybe some of the cheaper places don't. But the high end places we stayed at did and had tv's, coffee makers, DVD & CD players and light switches everywhere. The electricity is 220V so we brought an adapter to 110V for our camera and ipod charger. They are really cheap at travel stores or electronic stores.
cheers!

I just started looking into Bora Bora and it is freakin amazing but don't know yet if we will be able to swing it...Also, for the flight, no direct from JFK
And are we really looking at 7k for flight alone???

NO WAY MAN!!! I am paying about 8400 or so for my HM!! I'm going from the 8th to the 25th!!!! If you do it right you shouldn't be paying that much for the flights!
They did do away with the direct flights from JFK. If you can't get all connecting flights to go down there in one day, you might have to stay in Tahiti for a night. We are actually going to stay in Cali first for like 30 hours or so. I've never been there so that should be fun. FH has a friend with a house in the hollywood hills.

If you book everything seperately then the airfare is insane!! I think I did find it for about 3000 for 2 tickets and return flights... so that wasn't as bad as the 7g you found!! I think the time of year also is a factor. Although the weather seems pretty stable all year long... i don't even know why they say they have seasons.

You can go to tripology.com and you plug in the info for where you want to go and you have a bunch of travel agents who specialize in that area contact you. You can then take the best deal and go with it. That's how I found my TA!! And I LOVE her!! For us... we wanted to stay there longer and in order to do that we couldn't do a 5 star hotel. So we have a 3 star and I think a 4 star or two 3 stars... I can't remember. We are staying at Moorea Pearl Resort and Spa and Bora Bora Le Maitai Polynesia.

Where there's a will there's a way. You can make it happen if you research it and look into lots of options.

I looked into booking hotels on my own and then the flights on my own as well... and I will tell you that it was less money to go through a travel agent because of the airfare. The hotel deals I was getting were awesome... but when I added on the 3000 for airfare it send the price over what the TA was able to do for us.

GOOD LUCK!!! If you need any help we are here for you!!

I think most hotels there have AC, even the ones that aren't 5 star.

I was also told the adaptor is about $10 or so... so that's not bad at all. You would need that in order to charge anything (phone, cameras, etc).
When you book your hotel.... they will give you a listing of what ammenities they have... actually you can get that list before you book the hotel. You can find it on the hotel's website and also your TA should be able to give that to you.

Re: Bora Bora Thread

I need to say thank you for posting that website... I sent my request in yesterday and my first quote was for $6700 May 31-June 11. First night in Tahiti, 4 nights in morea and 5 Nights in Bora Bora in an over water bungalow.

I was seriously shocked that it really is AFFORDABLE!

I am looking forward to see what the other quotes I get!
