Official 30+ Brides (previously 40+ thread)
This thread was orignally started for the 40+ Brides but would love to invite all 30+ brides to join.I love talking to all the brides out there but I would like to hear what us 'Older Brides' are doing to plan their wedding. I am finding that I am doing things a little different and would like to see what others are doing.
My name is Celia and 46 y/o bride.

Re: Official 40+ Brides
I have been thinking about all the traditional parts of a reception and I have decided not to do some of them. I am not going to do the garter/boquet toss or the mother/son- father/daughter dance. Have you/will you be doing any of these? Will people expect it?

Re: Official 40+ Brides
Stacy 39 turning 40 a month after the wedding.I am not doing the garter but will probably do the bouquet although I think quite a few of my friends will be engaged by the time of the wedding and the other half are going to be preggos again on their seconds. Most of my friends got married in their 30's
if you are not doing the garter/bouquet the anniversary dance is very nice, celebrate the people who have been married the longest.

Re: Official 40+ Brides
You could give a bouquet of flowers or bottom of champagne to that couple.

Re: Official 40+ Brides
We're not doing the garter/bouquet toss thing. Besides the fact that I absolutely HATED it when I felt like I was the last single woman, we are officially the last of our friends to get married so there's no one to toss anything too!We have decided that instead of the anniversary dance - we are giving the bouquet to my sister's best friend who was the one who set us up.

Re: Official 40+ Brides
I'm not doing the garter/bouquet toss or the mother/son- father/daughter dance either. I do like the anniversary dance, but I have people in my family who doesn't dance or can't stand that long, so I am thinking of giving it to two couples. Do you think that is okay?

Re: Official 40+ Brides
I'm 36! I feel the same way. I'm not doing the garter- I can't imagine putting my hamhock thigh on display for everyone I love. CRINGE. Besides, it always sort of makes me uncomfortable when I see it at other weddings. No bo-k toss, either. And we're seeing each other before the wedding, so we can get all our pictures out of the way. I'm not missing any of it!!

Re: Official 40+ Brides
I was all for seeing each other before the ceremony for the pictures, but FH wanted to see me for the first time walking down the aisle (sometimes he surprises me).So, instead we moved our church up half an hour and decided no receiving line at the church so we have time to take pictures and still not miss any of the cocktail hour!
Some relatives have made the 'oh you're going to the cocktail hour?' remark and I have replied that yes, I'm paying for it, I waited a long time for it, and I'm not going to miss anything! FMIL made a comment about it and I told FH to tell her that if she doesn't agree she can pay for the wedding. No more comments from her!

Re: Official 40+ Brides
Glad we have this thread! I'm having a MOH, BM, RB, and FG. Doing the anniversary dance and will give a bottle of wine or champagne. I'm getting all the pictures done before the cocktail hour. The time is going to fly and it's going to be a great time to mingle with guests.

I agree, after I tell people they can pay for the weddiing, I don't hear another comment.
