Re: I'm sooooo pale....w/ poll

DO NOT do the spray tan!!!!! unless your going to fly out to cali where they have the top notch spray tanning, DO NOT DO IT!!!! i have not seen one person who looks good with a spray tan!!!

if you are a regular UV tanner, then i say sure y not... if you dont normally tan, then i say no no no

why dont you buy some of that darkening lotion... i forget who makes it - its NOT tanning lotion... its everyday body lotion that gives you a dark glow each time you use it.... i've used it beore & got the most natural looking results with that - its not drasitc AT ALL.... may not give you the deep tan you want, but its better than lookin like an orange mess!!!

Re: I'm sooooo pale....w/ poll

this answer is horrible

my mom had melanoma, i have had so many biopsies for suspicious moles, one was actually bad - not cancer but bad...my most recent biopsy required stitches my sister who is only 17 had pre cancerous cells removed from her back - she also need stitiches.....needless to say, i SHOULD NOT be in the sun or tanning bed

as a teen i abused the sun even though my mom would get upset, i thought it would never happen to me......well im going to be 24 and ive had over about 10 biopsies and i have so many beauty marks from tanning - i live at the dermatologist....

i think i am still going to go tanning before my wedding its risky, and its bad, and i know this, but i dont want to be pale - normally i get a spray tan, which would be fine for the wedding BUT i dont want to go to aruba pale.....im vain....what can i say....and i figure my skin is going to be getting damaged on my HM anyway (even though i plan on wearing tons of spf).....

but you probably shouldnt go......tanning is bad for you, ANY tan is bad for you - even a base is causing damage to your cells.....its just as bad as smoking b/c it causes cancer....

but i love tans maybe b/c i grew up in staten island?? and if your pale you REALLY stand out

Re: I'm sooooo pale....w/ poll

i'm nervous about being pale too. My dress is white white white. Not ivory or cream, but WHITE. So i really don't wanna look like a ghost come December when I'll already have lost what little tan I have. I'm gonna be tanning 3x a week starting Dec 1st. But I've done it before. If you don't normally go tanning, most people DO burn their first time. Some people even get weird tan lines from the tanning bed (unless you're doing the stand-up one). But if you DO decide to go, I'd suggest doing it for a short time frame the first day. Wouldn't wanna risk something funky happening to your skin right before the wedding

Re: I'm sooooo pale....w/ poll

i would say it really depends if u think u neeeeed color. im super pale and probably will be way pale for the wedding but im more anti-tanning.

fake n bake is bad for you

mikeandjess got spray tanning and it looked natural on her based on the pics she posted. if u go that route i wouldnt just go to anyone...only to places where u know u wont come out orange. but i heard spray tans can rub off (dunno if that is really true).

word of advice... we went to aruba on our HM & i am like you - i love laying out & getting tan.... the first day i thought SPF 30 would be fine - well it wasnt & i BURNED the first day. the thing is... there is a constant wind in aruba & it makes you feel like you arent getting sun when you really are... for the rest of the trip i wore SPF 50-75 and i got one hell of a tan let me tell you!!!

just be careful!! the sun is soooo strong there!

I can definitely relate to your story. I had skin cancer and now I literally LIVE at my dermatologist. I regret all the damage I've done when I was younger and it's been almost 4 years that I haven't tanned at all. I took time to get used to being pale but now I'm ok with it.

Re: I'm sooooo pale....w/ poll

GO IN A REGULAR BED A FEW TIMES - YOU SHOUDLNT BURN. THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE DESK KNOW HOW LONG TO PUT YOU IN FOR. I WOULD GO MORE THAN TWICE FOR 2 WEEKS MAYBE LIKE 6X - YOU WONT BE REALLY TAN BUT YOU WONT BE PASTY ANYMORE EITHER

HTH

ETA: also, I DO NOT burn easily EVER. I dont wear sunblock on vacations - caribbean, mexico wherever and I dont burn. So if you burn easily I would make sure to mention that if you do decide to go tanning

yeah my FILS went last Sept and they said its dangerous with the sun - because you dont get that really hot burning feel....so im def wearing SPF 50 - and i will probably lay under one of those palaypa most of the time (not sure of sp?) unless i go into the ocean - they told us they got floats and just laid out in the ocean like it was a pool....ugh i cant wait!

I totally <3 aruba. It is by far our favorite place to go!! I already mentioned above that I dont burn and I tan easily. The most Ive worn in aruba was 15 if that so you should be fine with 30 or more if your trying protect your skin...

wow!! even if you tan easily, i would still be scared of the sun exposure in general with SPF 15.... IMO spf 30+ would be perfect

Re: I'm sooooo pale....w/ poll

I have been going tanning 1x a week now for two weeks, and I will go once a week for the last two. I don't want to be dark, I just want to maintain the nice caramel color my arms have now. (from the ONE time I went to the beach this summer - I guess I hold onto color for a long time) I am going to a stand up booth, 6 mins per session so far - I may make it 7 for the next two times. I burned a little the first time (on my (.) (.) and bikini area) but this last time, it just tanned.

Re: I'm sooooo pale....w/ poll

if you dont tan really and usually burn when you do then DON'T. But if you normally do get a nice complexion then go just once or twice and DO NOT do it a day or 2 before, give time for the tan to settle.

I stopped tanning 2 weeks before and the reason why is bc i noticed than when I do tan, even if in person it looks nice and subtle, in pics it stands out alot more and makes you alot darker than you are. Even if you look at the LIW 08 bridal shower, i went tanning just ONE time, and i look so weird in the pics and stand out bc i am so tan compared to everybody, i hated the way it looked in pics lol. Plus with wearing white it will stand out alot more. But I do the diamond bed at beach bum for 12 mins, and with the lotions I use, i seriously get soooo dark just 1 time. Then the problem with using a lesser bed, you have the possibility of burning, dont just use their lowest bc many are older beds and can burn a bit. The newer beds have different technology and have a bronzer effect instead so you do not get red at all

Re: I'm sooooo pale....w/ poll

This is probably bad advice, but I would go get a little color. I'm only saying that because I know that's what I would do. Maybe go to the salon and ask them what they think you should do so you don't get burned or anything...they can probably tell you what'll be best!
