Have any of you gone through this recently? Our pup is just about at the age to get fixed....I was wondering where you ladies went and how much it costs. TIA

Re: Getting dogs fixed............
we took her to our vet. we made sure we did it before her first heat, if you wait until after it is more money and upsetting for the dog. i don't know if your pup is a male or female. our vet bill, for everything - all said and done, was $225... but we have a business network with our vet through my husband's business so we did not pay. it is like a points system and the points covered it. but i remember getting a receipt and that is what it would have been. we love our vet!he is in commack - dr. gurtman - i don't know where you are located.

Re: Getting dogs fixed............
go onto www.friendsofanimals.org and order a neuter/spay certificate. they have different prices for male and female but you can take the certificate to one of their vets and there's a ton and they will do it for free. the only thing you pay is for the medicine

Re: Getting dogs fixed............
Not recently, but I few years ago I had this done. It cost around $340-350. Everything went well. My dog had to stay overnight after she was fixed and this was the worst part. She was out of it the next day and layed in bed all day (I had to take off of work). She had a few stiches and they healed fast. It was just hard for her to go to the bathroom at first because her belly hurt from the stiches. We also had her fixed before she was in heat.

I paid around the same amount if not a bit more because I procrastinated to long and she had gone into heat once before. I remember feeling terrible because she was so groggy and sad after being fixed she didn't even feel like eating or drinking anything. I started to worry and hand fed her ice to keep her hydrated.

Re: Getting dogs fixed............
we took our puppy to the APSCA van - it was a $25 donation plus $5 for that little collar. They only take 25 per day so make sure you go early. The firends of animals certificate didnt cover everything - it was $90 for the certificate plus like $150 for all the other stuff (blood tests, and what not)

Thanks for the info. Jenn. Did you get your pup from the ASPCA? Also, what do you mean by the friends of animals certificate?

No we didnt get her at ASPCA - she was from a breeder and then we got her at a pet store.
If you go to Friends of Animals you can put in your zip and they will give you a list of participating vets. Then you buy a certificate (i think its $90 for a female). Defintely call the vet you want to use first, because like I said, I thought it was just the $90 but then there were other fees from the vet.
The ASPCA truck was very clean, neat abnd organized and the people there were soo helpful and polite! If I didn't like what I saw I never would have left the dog there.
ASPCA
(It says you need proof of public assitance, but that's only to get it free)
Hope that helps!
