Holidays and IL's?

Do you split your time with them and your family? I always spend the holidays with my IL's and wait a week or so and then go to there houses

Re: Holidays and IL's?

Christmas Eve has always been big at my parents house...we eat a big dinner and stay up until midnight, then open presents.

Since my family takes the day off for Christmas Day, then we spend it with my IL's.

We used to split other holidays like Thanksgiving where we'd eat dinner at one place, then go to the other family's for dessert...but it's really too much work. I think we'll just alternate years from now on.

all our parents are gone and his brother is out of state. I have cousins, so I'm glad if we get any invitations. usually all the cousins get together for christmad eve. the other holidays are catch as catch can.

Re: Holidays and IL's?

You'd think we had it easy being interfaith, right?

Wrong.

Our nightmare is Thanksgiving .... its almost harder because its the only really big non-religious holiday. Mothers Day and Fathers Day are hard too.

I have no idea what we're going to do. I don't even want to think about it. There IS no compromise.

Re: Holidays and IL's?

Both my parents are gone and DH's dad & stepmother and his mom live in Florida. Christmas eve we spend with DH's family and Christmas day with my family. We have spent the past couple of Thanksgiving's with DH's family.

Re: Holidays and IL's?

for the last couple years my family tries to do it the day before or after so we can go other places on the actual day.
I get so cheated because DH works every holiday so it's like nothing has changed, i go everywhere alone

Re: Holidays and IL's?

We usually alternate, we'll do Thanksgiving with his mom, and then Christmas with my family, or vice versa, it works pretty well

Re: Holidays and IL's?

My Family really isn't Big on the Holidays.
And my IL's are in FLorida.
So we try & have our own little Holiday, & make our own Traditions.

When my IL's lived in NY we would spend it with them.

We do the same thing...way too hard to split a day, and our parents homes are over an hour apart! It took some time for FIL and SIL to get used to this, but that;s the way it is!!
