'I Loved Her First'... any ideas?

(sorry that i'm posting this on both boards. I just really need some suggestions, so i figured I'd get it out there all over the place. lol)

So here's the deal...

For my Father/Daughter Dance I'm going to have the song 'I loved her First' by Heartland.

For those of you who have never heard it, the chorus basically goes:
**
But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
I loved her first
**

The song is just really beautiful. I'm wondering if anybody knows of a song similar to this one, but for a mother/son kinda deal. Like how in this song, it's basically the father talking to the groom about his daughter. Is there any songs out there with the Mother talking to the groom like this? Like how she 'prayed that he'd find her' stuff like that?

Is that far fetched? Probably. But I figured that if anyone could give me any ideas, this would be the place to ask!

Re: 'I Loved Her First'... any ideas?

I have no idea of any mother/son song like that. 'I Loved Her First' is what I danced with my dad to. DH danced with his mother to Memories by Elvis . We hated the song and idea of them dancing to it but MIL insisted on dancing to Elvis.
Good luck finding a song comparable to I Loved Her First. Maybe Josh Grobin 'You Raise Me Up.'?

Re: 'I Loved Her First'... any ideas?

I am using 'i loved her first' too! it's such a beautiful song- I cry everything time I hear it i'm hoping I don't cry that much on the big day.

Try 'the man you've become' by Molly Pasutti' It's a mother talking about her son growing up and finally finding the one and being so happy and in love.

HTH

that's so funny, my DH picked memories for him and his mom as well. I thought he'd be the only one! he did it b/c she loves Elvis. i actually liked it, and she didn't even know that's what he picked until they played it. she was bawling

i did all my life by the beatles, but I can't think of something comparable to i loved her first

Re: 'I Loved Her First'... any ideas?

I dont know of any specific song like that for mother/son but we used 'i hope you dance' by Leann Womak. The lyrics have that same feel to it.

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)

(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

DH wanted 'In My Life', but his mother went 'behind' his back and talked to the DJ to have it changed. Our DJ was DH's cousin...so he checked with us first, and DH finally OK'd it. But neither of us felt it was mother and son enough. We thought of it as a love song.

Re: 'I Loved Her First'... any ideas?

i danced with my dad to that song also

DH danced with his mom with a song for mama from boyz II men

You taught me everything
And everything youve given me
I always keep it inside
Youre the driving force in my life, yeah
There isnt anything
Or anyone I can be
And it just wouldnt feel right
If I didnt have you by my side
You were there for me to love and care for me
When skies were grey
Whenever I was down
You were always there to comfort me
And no one else can be what you have been to me
Youll always be you always will be the girl
In my life for all times

Chorus:
Mama, mama you know I love you
Oh you know I love you
Mama, mama youre the queen of my heart
Your love is like
Tears from the stars
Mama, I just want you to know
Lovin you is like food to my soul
Youre always down for me
Have always been around for me even when I was bad
You showed me right from my wrong
Yes you did
And you took up for me
When everyone was downin me
You always did understand
You gave me strength to go on
There was so many times
Looking back when I was so afraid
And then you come to me
And say to me I can face anything
And no one else can do
What you have done for me
Youll always be
You will always be the girl in my life
Chorus

We're planning on using that Rascal Flatts song also for the M/S dance, if we can't find one similar enough to 'I Loved Her First' It's a good song

Re: 'I Loved Her First'... any ideas?

DH danced with his mom to David Chamberlain's 'In your eyes' it was beautiful
When I look back on my childhood days
I feel so blessed in so many ways
You gave your love with every smile
with every touch
Somehow I knew that you believed in me so much

In your eyes I'd see
A special love for me
In your heart, the trust, you gave so easily
All that you inspired
Kept me reaching higher
In your eyes I'd see
The man I was meant to be

A dream came true when she said I do
You smiled at her - it was then I knew
That your blessing will be ours for all our lives
Your faith in us is shining in your eyes

and in your eyes I see
That special love for me
In your heart the trust, you give so easily
All that you inspire
Keeps me reaching higher
In your eyes I see
The man I was meant to be

You gave me roots that run so deep
You gave me wings to fly
I've never thanked you half enough
As the years went flying by...

CHORUS

Thanks mom
