Petal Cones: Easy or a pain to make?

I never really considered doing petal cones since we're getting married indoors at our hall, but when I was there for our menu selection the BM asked me if we were throwing anything. He said we can throw anything we want and that people do it even with indoor ceremonies... so, something I never really gave much thought to is now a possibility

I'm not entirely sure how the layout formatting works for making them, but are petal cones an easy extra or a pain to make? worth it or not?

thoughts for an indoor wedding? it may easily end up being cut out for lack of time but i'm wondering if I should now be considering them...

Re: Petal Cones: Easy or a pain to make?

I bought the doilies and attempted to do them the other day. I realized that doilies are way too flimsy and people will crush them. Ladies here have told me that vellum paper works better....so does cardstock. You need a firmer paper to help the cones keep shape to them.

I went to my florist yesterday and they are going to wrap tulle around two baskets with bows and put in petals.....my BM's can hold the baskets when everyone is walking out and ask them to take a handful to throw...I'm so excited about this!

Re: Petal Cones: Easy or a pain to make?

I think they were rather easy to make...I used tulle and regular paper, a hot glue gun, ribbon and a 'bow'.

Here are some pics....

Re: Petal Cones: Easy or a pain to make?

i made 50 petal cones out of card stock in about 2 hours ( between cutting, rolling, and pasting) its pretty easy but then again i am not really a perfectionist.....i didnt care it they were 'perfect' i just wanted them to look nice and they did! people were pointing out the fact that you can see my clear labels i put on them with our names when i posted them on here but i really didnt care....i looked at it this way.....noone is gonna be looking close enought at the wedding to see it lol

Re: Petal Cones: Easy or a pain to make?

I ordered mine pre-assembled and did some DIY on the rest. I printed our names and cut them fit the top of the cone on clear sheets of label paper and added the bow. I have pics on my home computer I can post later if you'd like. The cardstock matched our linen cardstock pretty well.

Re: Petal Cones: Easy or a pain to make?

I wouldnt spend alot of time on them...here is why.....I made 100 and not really any got thrown at us! (We got married at reception hall and aisle was pretty short.)

Anyway...I got my doilies at the dollar store and used two at a time (because they are thin) and glued together with hot glue and a heart sticker. They took me about 1-2 hours. Here is a pic.

thanks jenn,

I was originally thinking about ones with our names on the inside but it's probably not worth the hassle, doilies are cheaper and easier and they are still very pretty

Re: Petal Cones: Easy or a pain to make?

MIne were pretty easy. I did about 60ish and I do a bit each night. I used labels for the saying, a scalloped edge scissor for the trim, and then I printed the monograms on cardstock and got a round hole punch and punched them out. I just used double sided tape for the ribbon and the monogram. Good Luck.

For the menus I used the ones from Michael's that said Menu on them-they came out alright- and the closest find in regular linen cardstock I found was from staples. I never got around to looking for it at paper presentation.

Re: Petal Cones: Easy or a pain to make?

it was something i considered doing, like you ... especially when NRC said it was ok to do ...

but the aisle is *really* short in their ceremony room ...

and since it was interfaith, the people from my side weren't really expecting to throw anything

we also considered ribbon wands b/c i thought they were cute.

i saved it as a project for the end .... but had a miserable time health-wise the month before my wedding, so it got cut!!!

Re: Petal Cones: Easy or a pain to make?

A friend of mine used sheets of music, I loved that idea, esp if you can use your wedding song sheet music.

I love the doily idea too.
