jones beach fireworks

anyone ever go? DH and i are thinking about it...going to the beach in the evening, bringing a picnic and watching the fireworks. but what is making me kinda reluctant is the traffic. after the huuuuge amount of traffic at the jones beach air show, im kinda weary of doing big events at the beach. so has anyone had any experiences to share?? thanks

Re: jones beach fireworks

i went, MANY MANY moons ago (more than 5-6 years)...but it was a ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...

When i was there, there was no, getting there at night and doing a picnic. The lots were all full by 2:00 in the afternoon and it was crowded like crazy.

A LOT may've changed since then - but just an FYI..

Re: jones beach fireworks

a lot of people get there really early in the morning and just stay all day until the fireworks. There really are just sooooo many people and the parkway backs up like crazy!

Re: jones beach fireworks

I have gone several years and we always arrive way early in the morning (like 7 am). All the close parking lots fill up in the morning and if you get there at night you'll probably just have to park on the side of the road to see them.

Re: jones beach fireworks

We went a few years ago and I will never go again, the parking lots are a nightmare, the people there are the worst when they start leaving that its so not worth it for the 20minutes of fireworks

Re: jones beach fireworks

We went about 4 years ago and it was so packed on the Causeway we couldn't even drive through so we just turned around and went home. I think we ended up going to the Eisenhower Park one instead.

Re: jones beach fireworks

i go there every year- last year it was cancelled because of the rain ..... yes its bad - lots of traffic and crazy people out there but you just park along the side (dont even bother going into a field) and youll be fine... thats what we did- also instead of heading back (queens way) we go torwards robert moses and then head back home with the southern state....just makes it a little better

Re: jones beach fireworks

It's very difficult to get parking after 3 pm. Your best bet is to go and spend the whole day there.

Or let me let you in on our secret. If you go later on in the day, drive straight and park in the VIP lot for Jones
Beach Theater. It's a far walk to the beach, but it's not nearly as crowded and you will get out of the parking lot and onto the Wantagh in no time with no problem! HTH
