Would you let your kid do this?

OK, my DH thinks I'm overreacting, but twice in the last week, I've seen parents of toddlers letting their kids walk around in a public place totally barefoot.

The first time was on the Port Jeff ferry (the inside room by the lunch counter) and the second time was last night in the food court at the mall. Oh, and a complete stranger had to prevent the baby from going down the escalator.

Both babies were younger than 2.

Re: Would you let your kid do this?

Personally no I wouldn't. Do I think kids need to explore and do I like babies wearing shoes (especially when little and not walking) no, but in public places I think thats dangeous-never know whats on the floor. They could get cut or injured really easily. Not very smart of the parents.

Lately Ive seen kids doing a lot of crazy stuff and parents just ignoring it. To a point yes you let your kid be a kid; at home, at the homes of friends and family you trust, in kid friendly places like parks and gyms, ok. But in resturants, kids should NOT be running in between tables and screaming. Pet peeve of mine because its not the kids fault-its the parents.

LOL I dont like babies in shoes-especially infants who cant walk. DRICVE SME NUTS to see them wearing timberland boots and expensive sneakers. They're BABIES and they like to spread out there toes. Socks are ok though.

I got the CUTEST socks for my friens baby-they have little maryjanes painted on them. TOO cute.

Did you see the fake baby high heels that came out this week? They are soft like slippers, but are made to look like women's shoes. $36 a pair.

Re: Would you let your kid do this?

absolutely not! in a food court, that's gross. also, there could be glass on the floor etc. I am fine with no shoes at the beach, on the grass, etc. but not in public places like that.

Re: Would you let your kid do this?

honestly, I might on the ferry. LOL. Food court- no. I think sometimes babies need to get dirty and get germs so they build their immune systems. Am I totally crazy for thinking this? LOL.

Re: Would you let your kid do this?

Eww in public places shoes are a must. In the back yard is a different story. Good thing that person stopped the kid from going on the escalator. He/she could have lost a toe and then no doubt sued the Mall for it. I don't know what is wrong with people.

I agree; it makes me very nervous when I see barefoot kids. I think its kind of crazy but I can't help it. Even at my own place, even after I’ve cleaned I’m always after my daughter to put something on her feet and she gets annoyed with me. I take it to extremes but it makes me uncomfortable.

Re: Would you let your kid do this?

On the ferry yes...food court, no. There's also a chance that the kid took their shoes off without the parent noticing. Most tiny tots that i've seen do NOT like wearing shoes....(though the parents really, REALLY should be watching).

When i was younger, i walked around EVERYWHERE without shoes. I still, to this day prefer to be barefoot...i just like it better...

Re: Would you let your kid do this?

I think I would have been ok with the ferry if it had been outside on the deck. It skeeved me out because it was inside by the food counter and the baby's feet were really dirty.

Both babies LOVED being barefoot. Didn't bother them at all. Just bothered me!

No, I don't like to see that either. If the kid can't walk he should not have Tims on!!!

I meant, put socks on at least. It's just a thing I have w/ kids in public w/ bare feet. My friends think I'm nuts.

Re: Would you let your kid do this?

In a public place like that- restaurant, mall, ferry, etc. Definitely not! Though I probably wouldn't be personally irritated by seeing another parent let their child do it. ...Or Id get over it quickly as more impt things come up. lol

However, I will say that as a kid, I was constantly barefoot playing around the yard and I don't think thats a big deal, although I have heard ppl say that that is how kids get worms. I still go barefoot alot around our place- outside too I mean. Fam calls me the barefoot contessa. heh
