Asian/Oriental theme

Does anyone have ideas or pictures for this? The only thing I'm sure of at this point are red bridesmaid dresses and chocolate dipped fortune cookies in red takeout boxes and maybe wrap the box with a bow or something.. Help!?!?

Re: Asian/Oriental theme

I have some Asian inspired stuff for my wedding.
This is my invitation in gold and red.

The inside of the invite has two versions, one with the monogram B and one with the character double happiness.

This is my program fan with tassel.

The front is the western ceremony and the other side has a description of Chinese traditions.

This is my bouquet of red peonies and roses with a gold ribbon.

.. ... and finally, my wedding cake.

Re: Asian/Oriental theme

*Just a quick note: The term Oriental is offensive to most Asians since it is a word derived from the 19th century as an ethnic slur. It's impolite and politically incorrect. The correct modern term is Asian.**

You can find items at Pearl River at 477 Broadway Street (located on Broadway and Canal) as well as vendors in Chinatown in lower Manhattan. They have everything you can think of for your theme. Also found on: www.pearlriver.com.
Some ideas for your wedding favors: Satin Red Pillow with chinese lettering, wooden chopsticks with brocade holders, red envelopes with chinese lettering w/ bakery gift card tucked inside, or paper fans with lettering.
For your bridesmaids, look for ready to wear, sample sale, mandarin collar dress. If you venture into Chinatown, you'll find a lot of stores that have beautiful detailing/embroidery on the dresses. You might even find yourself a beautiful red vintage embroidery dress (worn by most Asian brides for their wedding).
Groomsmen: Find tux with mandarin/button up collar. Check your tuxwear store.
Cake: If you can find it or have a fondant made of Phoenix & Dragon (symbolize prosperity & wealth).
Centerpieces: Bamboo with cherry blossoms, peonies, orchids, lotus blossoms, red/pink roses
Decor: Paper parasols, lanterns, wooden fans, garlands of lilies/orchids
Programs/Invites: Double happiness symbol, newly-wed figurine or dragon & phoenix symbol printed on booklets (same with invites, chinese symbol with monograms of your names)
Reception: Incorporate 10 course meal/10 different entrees into your menu.

Hope that helps! Good luck on your wedding plans!
