cocktail hour music question! Is anybody NOT having music entertainment for it?
Well, here I am in a dilema. I was supposed to have some jazz in my cocktail hour played by my brother's jazz group; however, it is not going to happen. I am a musician myself, so I was thinking about hiring a colleague that plays the harp ... but FH thinks that we don't need music during the cocktail hour, that it is the time for presentations, etc. Actually, I have witnessed how loud can be cocktail hour talking and how shadowed it is any musical performance.
Right now I don't know what to do, anyone is not having music in the cocktail too? Thanks for the insight girls!

Helene: Is he using two different sound systems?I was thinking about it, but then FH said no way we were going to pay for an extra sound system for only one hour.
Thanks!

Our DJ will play music during cocktail hour, probably jazz music. But we're looking into getting steel drums as well :)

Have you asked your hall about it? Sometimes they'll just pump soft music into the cocktail room if you ask. I think that's what I'm going to do.

We are having a duet - keyboard and sax just to provide some soft background music.

We just having the background music that the DJ provides - nothing crazy or anything. I'm hoping most people will actually be outside for the cocktail hour (if the weather cooperates)!!

Re: cocktail hour music question! Is anybody NOT having music entertainment for it?
I am not. If weather permits mine will be outside & we didn't feel the need for it either way, there will be alot of mingling.I was at 2 weddings recently where they didn't have it & it was still great!

Re: cocktail hour music question! Is anybody NOT having music entertainment for it?
We had our DJ play back round music during the cocktail hour. He had a portable system that he used outside during the ceremony and I presume moved inside during cocktails. To be honest I cannot for the life of me recall if I heard any music or not. With all the mingling, eating, drinking, and excitement I dont think your guests will notice there is no music.

no music oer se for us. The room for the cocktail hour is a funny shape, and really doesn't allow for musicians. However, the place hsa a sound system, and we are going to burn some cd's of Jazz music to play

Re: cocktail hour music question! Is anybody NOT having music entertainment for it?
My dj is gdoing the same thing as ChristineC68's. I think it is a portable system that he uses. I don't think it costs extra, or if it does, it is not that much extra. I think people are going to be so busy eating that they won't even notice.

At villa's you can either have the music piped in or have the player piano, we are going with the player piano.

Re: cocktail hour music question! Is anybody NOT having music entertainment for it?
I've been to plenty of weddings that didn't have music at the cocktail hour. I think its not missed. Its just an added touch when its there. We had a piano player - one of the band members. There was no additional cost to have him play for that hour and it added to the ambiance (Land End had a grand piano in the cocktail room). If we were able to be outside, I would have gone for steel drums.
