Going to Italy and Greece and need HELP

Hi Ladies!!! So DH and I did not go to a honeymoon right away due to our schedules. SO we will be going away to Italy and Greece this summe. We don't know where to start. I'm gonna buy some books about each, but any help you could give us is reallyl appreciated. What places do we absolutely have to see in Italy and Greece and the most economical way to do it. We have hotel covered, so that's not a problem no matter where we go.

Re: Going to Italy and Greece and need HELP

We just got back from Italy for an early one year anniv gift to each other. We had such an amazing time! Next trip will be Greece.

Went to Florence, Rome and Venice. Let me know where you're looking to go in Italy and i'll give you some advise.

Re: Going to Italy and Greece and need HELP

You can take a Superfast ferry from Brindisi to the western coast of Greece...ask a travel agent about this as an option.

absolutely santorini, it is breathtaking, you wont want to leave. i was lucky enough to go on a cruise of the greek islands, and that was really the best, because i got to see a ton of places. if you can and like cruises, i'd definitely look into it. FH and I are looking into a cruise that includes both italy and greece for our honeymoon.

Italy is fantastic; don't miss Pompeii! I went to Rome, Venice, Florence, Naples, Siena. My favorite is Florence.

Yes, the Superfast ferry I mentioned earlier departs from Brindisi and goes to Kefalonia.

Re: Going to Italy and Greece and need HELP

Thanks for the info girls!!! What is the primary mode of transport between the islands (aka santorini to mykonos) ferry or small plane.. And roughly how long does it take to island hop (i know obviously it depends on which islands) just lookin to get an idea though bc we want to see a few islands but dont want to be in transport our entire honeymoon... Thanks again

Re: Going to Italy and Greece and need HELP

We went to Greece (Athens, Crete, Rhodes and Santorini) for 10 or 11 days. We took short plane rides or boats between the islands. I highly recommend Santorini (we stayed in Oia) and Rhodes. Santorini is a must see and Rhodes was very beautiful and relaxing. From what I've heard, Mykonos is more of a party island, which is something we weren't interested in for our honeymoon. I've also heard Paros and Naxos are nice. We weren't interested in going on a cruise, but if you want to see a lot of different places, that may be the best way to do it.

Most flights to islands originate in big cities, like Athens, Thessaloniki and Hania (Crete). Some 'major' touristy islands might have flights to other islands, but you should really contact a travel agent to get more information about this. There should be ferry service to and from Santorini and Mykonos, mostly in peak travel season...again, contact a travel agent for more information. Keep in mind that flights within Greece are EXPENSIVE in summer whereas ferry prices can be about 1/2 to 1/3 the price of airfare.

Two good travel agencies that specialize in travel to Greece are Crown Peter Travel and Homeric Tours...both have offices in Astoria, but they both have offices elsewhere.

Re: Going to Italy and Greece and need HELP

We went to Italy on our HM and found that the most comfortable and fun way was to travel it amongst ourselves. We only booked a one day tour to Florence and still would have like to spend the money that we paid for the tour to travel it on our own. My advice would be to find a book on the best possible way to travel certain towns in Italy from your hotel on your own.

When in Italy we frequently started our day near the Spanish Steps and started our travels from there. HEY, it was the one way I knew I was burning off the calories from all the gelato!!
We also visited the Fountain of Trevi both day and night just for different views and great pictures.
I also loved visiting Vatican City and we went twice at different times of day for shopping and for tourists purposes.
