brazilian hair straightener

Has anyone had that? I just recently found out about it at my salon... I have very curly hair and have had it relaxed numerous times, which does help- but this is supposed to do amazing things to your hair AND it is good for your hair! It is just adding protein and doesn't hurt your hair at all- just takes the frizz/curl out! I think I may get it done in a few weeks but wanted to see if anyone has had any experiences with it first!

My cousin did it at our salon-the place where i get my hair colored not cut. she likes it. She still blow dries but its not like before with the blowing and wrapping it up in a doobie. Her hair doesn't look processed either.

Re: brazilian hair straightener

Ive heard about it but never seen someones hair after doing it. I think it safer than the Japanese straightening system, i would definitly do it if it lasted longer, but it only last abouts 3 months i heard, so imo its not really worth the cost and process.

Re: brazilian hair straightener

the only bad thing i have heard is that it has formaldehyde in it....although my hair girl swears its only a tiny bit...it sounds scarry....but she has done it on a lot of clients and she says they love it....i am dying to get it bc i have curly hair and in summer i hate blowing it out plus it gets frizzy...i may do it in june so it last through the hot summer days....

i think its the other way around. the japanese is a little safer---but the brazilian is not very common in hair salons because it poses a greater danger as a LOT of formaldahyde is used in the brazilian process.

oooohhhh well thats good to know. I thought that since they used keratin/protein it was alot better for your hair.

Re: brazilian hair straightener

Court-- I had japanese straightening done and I loved it. I have heard mixed things about Brazilian.

the place i go is either in midtown or lower east side.

the name was hayato salon.

Re: brazilian hair straightener

I have had both done but on only the extensions b/c the hair was not the same as mine which is fine and pin straight. I preferred Jap over Braz but that is b/c of the stylist and the way she did it.

I will find out the total skinny on one over the other in terms of chemicals and get back to you all.

Re: brazilian hair straightener

as a hair stylist i INSIST that you do not get the brazilian because of the formaldahyde

its really bad for the structure of the hair and may not ever rpair

ask around for a place that does the CHI transformation system

it is the safest and the best for the money..it is 100% PERMANENT..it lasts forever..you just have to touch it up as it grown in curly of course

ive been doing it on my own hair for almost 7 years and my hair is in better condition then it has ever been

it costs arounf $600 though..sometimes a little higher and sometimes a little lower

but it is PERMANENT

Re: brazilian hair straightener

hmmmmm... maybe I'm stupid... but what exactly is formaldahyde and what does it do to your hair? I am so glad I posted this, because I was about to make an appt! I just want my hair to not get frizzy and not have 'regrowth' of frizzy hair when it starts to grow out- so I figured something that washes out would be perfect! Hmmm..... guess not??

the chemical..no chemical for that matter can control what your regrowth is going to be..it doesnt seep into your head..the regrowth with ALWAYS be what kind of hair you always have

the curl will calm downa little bit due to the weight of the straight hair pulling it down

The way my hairstylist explained it to me-it NOT a straightening system, it's a keratin treatment and it doesn't straighten your hair, it takes away the frizz. I believe we have Keratin in our hair naturally so w/ the treatment it leaves your hair looking very healthy. It last about 4 months and is pricey. My girl doesn't do it in her shop b/c it wouldn't pay, she does it privately. They are some that are formaldahyde free.

I've heard from several people that the Japanese system is really harsh and is not good at all for your hair.
